Description

(No Model) H. H. B. VINCENT.
Stove Pipe Damper. No. 239,895. Patented Aprii 5,1881.
| 1 ILIIIIHIHHHIIIIII ".PEIERS, PMOTO-UTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON, D C
. IINITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY H. B. VINCENT, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
STOVE-PIPE DAM PER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,895, dated April 5, 1881.
Application filed January 28, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. B. VINCENT, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe Damp ers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in stove-pipe dampers, and it has for its objects to provide a damper which, when fully closed, will offer asuitable obstruction tothe draft through the pipe to properly retard it, while it will not stop it entirely, and to provide certain improvements in the construction of the damper, whereby it may be readily secured to the handle, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whicht Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved damper complete; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3, a detached view, showing one of the seats for the damper-handle; and Fig. 4 is a bottom-plan view of the damper. V
The letter A indicates an annulus, constructed of cast metal, by preference, and provided with lugs B and G on one side. The lugs B are formed with angular recesses at their ends, for the purpose hereinafter described, and the lugs O with depressions c.
The letter D indicates a deflecting-plate. This is of less diameter than the annulus. The said plate is provided with lugs E and F on one side, which are respectively so placed as to be opposite to the lugs B and O on the annulus. The lugs E have angular recesses at their ends, so that when they are placed injuxtaposition with the lugs B they, with said lugs, will form rectangular seats for the handle G. The lugs F are pointed or rounded at their ends, so as to set in the depressions of the lugs O. v
The letter H indicates a series of screw-bolts passing through the plate and annulus, and provided with nuts I, by means of which said plate and annulus may be secured together and caused to bind tightly upon the handle, so as to be held thereon. The annulus is of a diameter to fit the interior of a stove-pipelike an ordinary damper, and both the plate and annulus are provided with beads K at their edges, for the purpose of increasing the strength of the damper without adding materially to its weight.
The damper is located in the stove-pipe wherever required, and is operated in the same manner as the ordinary damper, and when fully closed permits a retarded draft to pass through it, as will be readily perceived.
- Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a stovepipe damper, the combination of the annulus and the deflecting-plate, provided with lugs adapted to engage each other, one set of lugs being provided with angular recesses, formingseat for the damper-rod, and the screw-bolts whereby the plate and annulus are secured together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingas my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
