Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. GREGOIRE AND HUBERT HEBERT, OF LAKE LINDEN, MICHIGAN.
BEDSTEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,768, dated April 5, 1881.
Application filed November 13, 1880 (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN B. GREGOIRE and HUBERT HEBERT, of Lake Linden, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Bedstead, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in a bedstead formed of a horizontal frame of the size of the bedstead,supported by suitable legs, and provided with a series of transverse or longitudinal springslats, upon which blocks supporting a like spring-slat frame rest, thislatter frame being provided with springs on both sides and with a hinged adjustable head-rest. Strips attached to the upper frame project beyond the edge of thcframe, and the bedstead side boards, to which the head and foot pieces are fastened, rest upon these projections.
11] the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of our improved bedstead. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on the line so 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The frame A rests upon the legs B B, which are provided with a dovetailed tongue, b, which slides in a corresponding groove in the under edge of the frame, thus permitting the legs to be removed when desired. The legs may be rigidly attached to the frame A, or may be made detachable in any desired manner.
A series of spring-slats, O U, are fastened to the upper edge of the frame A, and two blocks, D D, rest upon each slat U. A series of spring-slats, E E, fastened to the bottom edge of a frame, F, of the same size as the frame A, rest upon the blocks D D, the slats E and G and these blocks D being united by a pin or bolt. The slats O and E are also stiffbars or strips M M are fastened to the edge of :o
the frame F, at or near each end, in such a manner that they project a short distance from the:
side of the frame, as shown at g The side railsor bars, N N, of the bedstead, having a longitudinal shoulder, 0, on the inner side,
rest upon these projections g g, and the heath pieces P and the footpiece Q, are attached to these side boards, by means of inverted hooks and recessed plates, in the ordinary manner;
but in the reversed position, for whereas, formerl y the side boards, slats, and mattress were supported by the head and foot pieces, the side boards rest upon the spring-frame in this case, and support the head and foot pieces.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent In a bedstead, the combination of the frames A F, the spring-slats O on top of frame A, the blocks D on said slats, and the spring-slats E H, arranged respectively on opposite sides of the frame F, as shown and described.
JOHN BAPTISTE GREGOIIRE. HUBERT HEBERT.
