BLOW-GUN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,633, dated Application filed August 23, 1880.
i juvenile marksman to take aim, will throw the missile a considerable distance without great effort on the part of the operator, and will at the same time be simple and cheap in con struction.
My inventionconsists in the peculiar novel devices and combinations of devices employed by me, as fully hereinafter explained, and poi n ted out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, Figure I is a perspective view of the toy gun; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of the barrel of the same on the line of the blowtube', the stock being in elevation; and Fig. 3, a separate view of the removable mouth-piece.
'Likje letters denote corresponding parts in all the figures. I
A is the stock of the gun, and B the barrel, both made of wood. The stock is shaped to fit the shoulder, and has somewhat more rise to the barrel than usual, in order to give room the missile.
The barrel B is made in two halves, a b, the lower half being in one piece with the stock, while the upper half terminates at the breech of the gun. The two halves at b of the barrel are grooved to form a long tube, 0, extending from the muzzle of the barrel through the breech of the same. The halves of the barrel are secured together by straps c c, which may have points turned up to form sights.
In the breech of the gun is inserted a short metal tube, d, permanently secured therein. D is another short tube, which slides removably within the tube d into the breech of the gun. This tube 1) has an offset, a, at its outer end, to which is attached a flaring mouth-piece, f, such mouth-piece being located by means of April 5, 1881.
(No model.)
the offset below and to one side of the barrel. The tube D has an opening, 9, in its side, through which the missile is inserted into such tube, the opening being within the gun when it is operated. The tube 4 serves to make a close fit with the removable tube I), so that the full force of the blast of air will be utilized.
To use the toy gun the tube D is removed and themissile is placed therein through opening g. Then the tube is pushed into the breech of the gun, the mouth-piece at the same time being adjusted to the proper position. The gun is then raised to the shoulder, the lips are put to the mouth-piece, and the eye of the marksman glances along the barrel. When the object is in proper range he blows into the mouth-piece, and the missile is projected from the gun. The gun can then be reloaded, as before described.
The offset in the pipe D permits the mouthpiece to be located sothat the gun can be aimed at the same time that it is operated.
The fealu res of construction before described could also be applied to toy pistols without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In a toy blow'gun, the combination, with the stock and thebarrel having a blow-tube, of the removable tube D, having offset 6 and inouth-piece f, and provided with the opening 9, through which the missile is placed in such tube D, said opening 9 being inclosed within the blow-tube when the parts are in position for ejecting the missile, substantially as described and shown.
2. In a toy blow-gun, the combination, with the stock, of the barrel, made in two longitudinal pieces, of wood, grooved and secured together so as to form the blow-tube 0, the metal tube at in the end of the blow-tube, and the removable tube D, having mouth-piece, and projecting into such tube d, substantially as described and shown.
