1 Claim. (01. 2-427) My invention relates to garments and more particularly slacks, overalls or cover-alls to be worn by either adults or children.

A salient object of my invention is to provide a novel drop seat garment that is adequately supported at the waistline of the wearer regardless of whether the seat be dropped or lifted, that affords substantial support for the lower abdomen of the wearer, and that comprises simple, effective and easily manipulated means for retaining the drop seat in lifted position.

Another object of the invention is to provide a garment, of the kind mentioned in the last preceding paragraph, that is particularly adapted to comprise and support such accessories as garters and a loin cloth whenever they may be required or desirable.

Other features, objects and advantages of my invention will appear from the following detailed description wherein reference is made to the accompanying two sheets of drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view that illustrates my new garment as viewed from the front;

Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the garment as viewed from the rear;

Fig. 3 is a perspective view that illustrates the garment as it appears when its seat portion is dropped;

Fig. 4 is a rear view of the garment, disassociated from a wearer, as it appears when viewed from the rear with its seat portion dropped; and

Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of the garment.

Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

The garment comprises the leg portions l joined by the crotch seam ll that suitably extends upwardly, at front and back, to the yokes l2 and i3. Further reference to such yokes presently will be made. Each leg portion IE) is provided with a side opening or placket N that extends downwardly from its top edgethese side openings l4 dividing the upper part of the earment into front and back portions indicated at l and I6 respectively. The material at the edges of the openings l suitably is finished by being folded and seamed as shown.

The top edge of the front portion I5 is stitched, as at ll, to the elongated yoke l2 having ends IZa and l2b that project beyond the lateral edges of the front portion It; the yoke ends I20, and i2?) definitely tapereing toward their extremities as shown (see Fig. 4)

' Stitched to the extremity of the yoke end 12b is one end of a length of elastic webbing it which at its other end is provided with fastener eyes !9 adapted to cooperate with hooks 28 carried by the extremity of yoke end l2a. Eyes 59 and hooks 20 conveniently are carried-byconventional carrier strips 2! and 22 that are stitched, respectively, to the webbing l8 and the yoke end I211. It will be noted that the upper and lower edges of the webbing l8 converge toward the hook carrying end thereof. In other words, the yoke end 52b and the webbing l8 preferably exhibit a more or less continuous taper toward the eye-carrying end of the webbing in order better to follow the contour of the body of the wearer.

Yoke l2 and webbing l8 and their fastenin devices (which are not necessarily hooks and eyes) constitute an elastic or self-adjusting abdominal girdle that is permanently attached to the upper front portion I5 of thegarment. It is provided with at least two belt loops 23. When but two belt loops are provided (and no more are necessary) they preferably lie at the sides of the wearer, substantially as shown in the drawings.

While I prefer that the webbing l8 be employed, other well-known means may be utilized for rendering the girdle adjustable.

The top edge of the back portion i6 is stitched, as at 24, to the yoke l3 that desirably is of a length corresponding approximately to the length of the upper edge of the back portion [6.

top edge of yoke 13 is a belt 25 having ends 25a and 251) that extend beyond the ends of yoke I3. A conventional buckle 2B, or equivalent fastener, may be carried by the extremity of the belt end 25a.

To lift the drop seat, 13-46, and hold it in its lifted position, all the wearer has to do is pass belt ends 25a and 25b through belt loops 23, tauten the belt as desired, and then fasten the belt ends forwardly of the loop 23 with the buckle 26 or otherwise. Merely loosening the belt ends permits the seat I3l6 readily to be moved to its dropped position. 7

With the drop seat I3l6 lifted, and the belt ends 25a and 25b fastened against withdrawal from the belt loops 23, the elastic webbing l8 and the yoke ends I2a and lZb effectively are concealed by yoke l3 and belt 25, the belt ends lie on the yoke l2, and the girdle constituted by yoke l2 and elastic webbing l8 and the fastening devices l9 and 2!), affords substantial desirable support for the lower abdomen of the wearer.

The yoke 12 may be reenforced intermediate its ends with a stitched-on inside facing 21 from the lower corners of which garters 28 may depend. Other garters 29 may depend from the yoke ends I21: and I212. The lower edge of reenforcing facing 2'! may serve as an anchorage for the forward end of a. loin cloth 30 having its other end anchored to the lower edge of the drop seat yoke l3. The attachment of the loin cloth to the reenforcing facing .21 vand the yoke: 13 is eflected by hooks 3| and eyes 32 or other suitable separable fastening devices.

While I have illustrated my invention as applied to a garment that does not extend substantially above the waistline of the wearer, I appreciate that it may be incorporated in garments of the over-alls types-i. e., garments that have a bib, extending upwardly from the waistline, supported at the top by suspender straps coming over the shoulders from behind.

The word slacks, as used herein, includes any trousers-like garment, for adults or children, which embodies my present invention as set forth in the sub-joined claim.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

Slacks comprising, in combination, leg portions secured together by a crotch scam, the tops of said leg portions being cut downwardly at the sides to provide plackets dividing the top of the slacks into front and rear sections, a yoke stitched to the top of the front section along a curved line extending upwardly toward the sides, said yoke being of sufficient width in front to serve as an abdominal support as well as a top front section for the slacks, said yoke also having ends tapered to narrower widththan the front portion thereof, one of said ends including elastic and being adapted to be connected to the other of said ends to complete said abdominal support, a rear yoke of substantially the same width adjacent the plackets as the front yoke and stitched to the top of the rear section in position for normal lateral alignment with the front yoke, belt loops secured to the opposite sides of the top edge of the front yoke at positions forwardly of said plackets, said rear section and yoke providing a drop seat normally extending upwardly to cover the extended ends of the front yoke and having a belt adapted to pass through said belt loops and hold the rear section in the upward position with the sides thereof overlapping the sides of the front section.
