TOY TANK File i June 2 1, 1944 2 Sheet-Sheet 2 Inventor Patented Nov. 6, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TOY TANK George S. Lawrence, Chester, Pa. Application June 21, 1944, Serial No. 541,388
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys and more particularly to a toy tank having imitation guns mounted therein and movable outwardly through openings formed in the tank together with means for actuating the guns to simulate the firing and recoil thereof as well as the adjustment in the elevation of the guns.
A further object'of the invention is to provide a toy of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing a pair of the imitation guns connected to each other.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the tank body which includes the sloping front and rear walls 6 and 1, the top 8 and bottom 9. The lower portion of the front wall 6 terminates in a forwardly extending fiat extension In to which a handle I I is attached.
To the bottom of the tank is rotatably attached a' pair of axles l2 and [3 in axial alignment and extending transversely of the tank and'to which the wheels l4 and I5 are secured.
Cranks IE and I! are attached to the inner ends of the axle, the outer ends of the cranks being connected by a pin l8.
An opening I9 is formed in the front wall 6 and an opening 20 is formed in the rear wall 1 in which imitation guns 2| and 22 are respectively slidably positioned, the inner ends of the guns being pivotally attached to the pin 18.
The top 8 of the tank is also formed with a front opening 23 and a rear opening 24, the opening 23 having an imitation gun 25 slidably positioned therein and extending downwardly into the tank with its lower end pivotally attached to the rear gun 22 and the rear opening 24 of the top slidably receives an imitation gun 26 projecting downwardly into the tank and having its lower end pivotally attached to the front gun 2| as shown to advantage in Figure 4 of the drawings.
Accordingly, during the movement of the tank over the ground, the wheels l5 will rotate the rotate the axles l2 and I3 whereby to rotate the cranks l6 and I1 and cause an inward and outward projectin movement of the several guns attached thereto. Such movement of the guns accordingly simulates the firing and recoil thereof.
It is believed that the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having described the claimed as new is: i
A toy tank comprising a body having an axle rotatably supported thereby, wheels secured to the axle for rotating the latter upon movement of the wheels over the ground, a crank on the axle, said body including front and rear walls and a top, said front and rear walls and said top having openings therein, a pair of toy guns having one end pivotally attached to the crank, one of said guns being slidably positioned in the opening in the front wall and the other of said guns being slidably positioned in the opening of the rear Wall for endwise movement by said crank, and a pair of additional toy guns each pivotally attached at one end to one of the guns of the first-named pair inter-mediate the ends thereof, said additional pair of guns being crossed and slidably positioned in the openings in the top of the tank, for endwise movement by the first-named pair oppositely relative to the directibn of movement of the guns of the first-named pair.
