Application May 17, 1944; Serial No. 535,978
3 Claims. (01. 304-24) I The invention relates to a window scaffold or window jack, and more especially to a foldable portable window stand.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a stand of this character, wherein it can be readily and easily applied to single or double windows to support a workman outside of the same, without any liability of such stand becoming loose and thereby assuring safety to its user.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a stand of this character, wherein the construction thereof enables convenient folding of the same when not inuse, and also is readily portable, it being placed with dispatch, and is susceptible of quick removal.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a stand of this character, wherein the same can be applied to varying sizes of windows, either of the single or double casement types, and when applied will be sturdy for withstanding a load, it being reasonably light in weight and assures a maximum speed for a workman when upon the same.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a stand of this character, which is few parts, conveniently adjusted, easily applied 7 and removed to and from working positions, re-
quiring little space when not in service, and in expensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which show the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunder appended.
in the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the stand constructed in accordance with the invention in an applied Position.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
standard construction, B a portion of a vertical wall about the same, while C is the stand constituting the present invention and hereinafter set forth in detail.
The stand C comprises a pair of spaced tread wings III, which are arranged side-by-side in the same plane with each other and their inner ends merge with a saddle extension I I integral therewith, the latter being formed with an upwardly bent step formation creating shoulders I! located at the inner ends of the wings Ill and placing the extension in a plane elevated with respect to the plane of such wings.
The extension ll near opposite ends thereof and parallel with the latter has formed therein rows of spaced vertical holes l3 for selectively receiving the stems M of a locking staple l5 of inverted substantially U-form, excepting that its closed head portion is bent over at substantially right angles to the stems l4, so that the inner face of the vertical parting strip N3 of the double window frame of the easement window A Will Have contact with said head portion of the said staple l5, when the stand is placed upon the sill area of the window with the wings straddling the strip l6 and projected exteriorlygf such window. In this position of the stand theshoulders I2 of the extension ll abut the outer face of wall the swingable inner prop l1 and the outer double armed latching bail l8 for the latter, the hinging being at H, and each latching bail I8 is formed with hook terminals 20 for separably engaging selected eyelets 2| formed on the prop frames I! which are of the closed-loop type. Each prop I1 contacts with the outer face of the wall B and is latched by the bail l8 in such position, so as to nates generally a double casement window of any horizontally prop the wings in, and in this manner the stand is made secure in position to support a load outside of the window A, as will be clearly apparent from Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings. If the stand is used on a single window then the wings Ill are in a non-straddling position, as there is no strip l6 present in this type of window, yet the stand will be firmly held in place through the action of the shoulder and staple arrangement hereinbefore described.
On detaching the latching bails it from tho props l1 and removal of the staple l5 from the for the stand in" fastening the latter in place upon" the sill area of a window.
What is claimed is:
1. A stand of the kind described; comprising a stepped extension, spaced wings formed integral 2. A stand of the kind described, comprising a stepped extension, spaced parallel wings formed integral with the extension at the lower portion of the step thereof, a substantially U-shaped blocking staple having its head portion bent at substantially right angles to the stems thereof adjustably fitting the extension, a releasably latched prop at the under side of each wing, and ma si n e ch W qn g e sably lat h t prop common thereto. v Q 3 3'." A stand of the kinddescribd, comprising a stepped extension, spaced wings joining the extension at the lower portion of the step thereof,
' a blocking staple adjustably fitting the extension,
' wing, means on each Wing for releasably latching with the extension at the lower portionof the step thereof, a substantially U-shaped blocking staple having its head portion bent, at substantially right angles to the stems thereof adjustably fitting the extension, and a releasably 'latched'go m? the un e Side i s q wm a releasably latched prop at the under side of each theprop'common thereto, and connections hing-' ing the prop and means to the respective wings.
