Description

(ModeL) L. 0. BREKKE,
Draft Equalizer.
v No. 238,337. Patnted March 1,1881.
N, PEI'ERS' FHOTO-LITNOGRAPHER WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS O. BREKKE, OF DEOORAH, IOWA.
DRAFT-EQUALIZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,337, dated March l, 1881.
Application filed July 24, 1880. (Model) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEWIS O. BREKKE, of Decorah, in the county of Winneshiek and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and fuseful Improvements in Three-Horse Equalizers; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which-- v as hereinai'terdescribed, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, A is the tongue, upon the rear end of which is pivoted a horizontal sheave, B, around which passes a-chain or rope, G.
D is a lever, one end of which is pivoted in the tongue A, while its outer free end is attached: to the single-tree E.
F is another lever or connecting-bar, one end of which is hinged atf upon the lever D, while its opposite end is pivoted to the middle of the double-tree G, which carries the single-trees E E The bolt 6 which unites the double-tree G tolever F is also inserted through the free ends of a stirrup, d, to which one end of the chain 0 is attached, while its other end, after passing around the sheave B, is fastened to lever D, as clearly shown in the drawings.
From the foregoing description the operation and advantages of my improved equalizer will readily be understood.
It will be seen that the pull of the two horses comes upon lever F and chain 0, and through these upon lever D, thus operatingon that side of the tongue where there is but one horse. By this combination and arrangement side draft is avoided, and the combined draft of thethree horses will center upon and be in a line with the tongue.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a three-horse equalizer, the combination, viththe pole A, having sheave B, double-tree Gr lever D, and chain 0, of the connecting-bar F, pivoted at opposite ends to the double-tree G and lever D, respectively, and swinging free of the pole A, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own 1 have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
