  • This invention relates to non-refillable bottles and like containers, and particularly to a nonrefillable closure of disc valve type.

In Cuba Marchfi, 1943 p 2Claims. (Cl. 215-30) This invention relates to non-refillable bottles and like containers, and particularly to a nonrefillable closure of disc valve type.
This invention has for its object to provide an improvement in non-refillable closure, consisting in mounting the valve casing almost completely outside the bottle neck and with only a small, deep portion thereof fitted in thebottle mouth to center the valve casing, and in making the disc valve with a peripheral edge at its recessed lower face so that its contact with its seat-formed by the bottom of the valve casing will be firm and safe about the bottom central opening, whereby I obtain a simpler valve-casing structure and a more efilcient operation of the disc valve, thereby adding efiiciency to the closure to prevent refilling of the bottle.
The-invention is described with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing, of which:

In the drawing, I indicates a bottle neck which has adjusted at its mouth a small deep portion of the bottom of a device of plastic material in the shape of a cylindrical cup 2 having a central hole 3 at its bottom portion and a peripheral recess 4 at its lower edge to fit on the mouth of the bottle neck I and at the same time to rest on a packing washer 5 disposed on the upper edge of bottle neck -I. The inner space-ofthe cup 2 serves as a lodging for a free valve consisting of asolid disc 6 of a diameter slightly smaller than the inner diameter. of the cylindrical body of the cup 2 to permanently allow the passage of liquid there about in any inclined position of the bottle, with the peculiarity that the lower face of. the disc 6 is recessed to form an annular peripheral edge 7 whereby its contact with the bottom portion of cup 2 serving as a seat for same is more firm and secure than would be .ifthe lower face of the disc 6 were entirely plain. v

Thecover I4 is provided near its lower edge with a horizontal partition which has near the inner surface of cover 14 four inter-equidistant openings l6 (Fig. 4)., the cover I4 having at its outer surface ascrew thread I! adapted to threadedly I receive the threaded groove oia thread cap J8, preferably metallic, which is adjusted on the upper edge of the .uppercover. l4 through. the intermission of a compressible disc I 9 to prevent liquid overflow in the closed position of the cap 18.
Between thelower edgeof the upper cover It and the up er; edge of the cup 2 is interposed a glass or another plastic material disc through the intermission of an upper packing washer 2| and another lower packing washer 22, said disc '20 having a central hole 23 and' four smaller quidistant holes 24, arranged in circular alignment about the central hole 23 (Fig. 5.), said disc 20 having also at its lower face four pointedprojections disposed alternately to the four encircling holes 24, the function of said projections 25 being to prevent the disc 6 from adheringlby its upper face to the lower face of the disc 20 upon the bottle being inclined. The upper cover I4 is so placed relatively to the disc 20 that the four openings I6 of the partition do not vertically register the four encircling holes 24 of the disc 20, to which end both the cover l4 and the disc 20 are secured in fixed position by means of a tongues 30 and CH which are alternatively inclined upwards and downwards to form opposed catches adapted to engage opposed ratchet gear crowns 32 and 33 formed respectively on the lower face of the horizontal flange 28 and on the upper face of the annular edge I I.

lar edge I I in the position on which its downward catches 3| engage the upper ratchet gear crown 33 of the annular edge I l of the bottle neck I, the lower cover 9 is screwed on the bottle neck]; by causing it to rotate to theright or in 'a clockwise direction until the lower edge of the enlarged portion 9' of said cover 9 comes to reston the upper face of the annular edge II on its marginal rim portion I I, and the upwardly directed catches 30 of the catch ring 29 come to engage the lower ratchet gear crown 32 of the horizontal flange 28, whereupon the lower cover 9 will remain locked and it will be impossible to unscrew the lower cover 9 to withdraw it from the bottleneck I, the catch ring thus affording an eiTective locking means for undetachably securing the non-refillable closure to the bottle neckl, and the lower cover 9 must be broken away in order that 'the bottle may be refilled. The present invention constitutes a further development of the bottle closure described in the copending application Ser. No. 478,339 of March a, 1943. 1
What I claim is: v
1. In a closure device for rendering "a bottle non-refillable, the combination .of a cup-shaped element having its bottom .wall provided with a central hole and also with an angular recess at its peripheral edge forming a flat radial shoulder adapted to seat against the mouthof a bottle, a disc valve of smaller diameter than'the inner diameter of said cup-shaped element and provided I with a circular recess in one, face loosely placed within said cup-shaped element, with the annular edge formed by said circular recess directed downwardly and engaging the bottom of said cup,- shaped element, a disc provided with a central hole and with several smaller holes arranged circumferentially thereabout and also with aseries of pointed projections at its lowerface'positioned on the upper edge ofsaid cup-shapedelement, a cylindrical cover provided at its lower-end with an outwardly extending fiange, the lower face of which engaging the top of said last named disc, said cylindrical cover having a horizontal partition in its lower end provided with a series of equidistant peripheral holes and also having at its lower end a pointed projection entering a matching aperture in said disc, said last named pointed projection being arranged in such a position on said cylindrical cover that upon assembly of the cover and disc the small holes in the latter will be out of registration with the holes in said horizontal partition, and a second cylindrical cover for receiving in its interior the serially alined first mentioned cover, disc, and cup-shaped member with the disc valve loosely placed within the latter, said second cylindrical cover having at'its upper end an inwardly extending flange engaging the upper face of the outwardly extending flange on said first named cover, the lower end of said second cylindrical cover being adapted to receive the upper end of the neck of the bottle and having means adapted to non-removably secure said second cylindrical cover and therewith 'the entire closure device to the bottle.

In a device of the character described, the combination with a bottle having a threaded neck, of a cup-shaped element having its bottom wall provided with a central hole and also with an angular recess at its peripheral edge forming a flat radial shoulder bearing against the upper end of the neck of the bottle, a disc valve of smaller diameter than the inner diameter of said cup shaped element and provided with a circular recess in one face loosely placed Within said cupshaped element, with the annular edge formed by said circular recess directed downwardly and engaging the bottom of said cup-shaped element, a disc provided with a central hole and with several smaller holes arranged circumferentially thereabout and also with a series of pointed projections at its lower face positioned on the upper edge of said cup-shaped element, acylindrical cover provided at its lower end withari outwardly extending flange, the lower face off which engaging the top of said last named disc, said cylindrical cover having a horizontal partition in its lower end provided with a serie ofequidistant peripheral holes and also having at its lower end a pointed projection entering a matching aperture in said disc, said last named pointedprojection being arranged in such a position on said cylindrical cover that upon assembly of the cover and disc the small holes in the latter will be out of registration with the holes in said horizontal partition, a second cylindrical cover forreceiving in its interior the serially alined first mentioned cover, disc, and cup-shaped member withjthe disc valve loosely placed within the latter, said second cylindrical cover having at its upper end an inwardly extending flange engaging the upper face of the outwardly extending flange on said first named cover, the lower end of said second cylindrical cover being provided with interior threads engagingthe threads on said threaded neck, and means arranged betweenthe lower end of the second cylindrical cover and the neck of the bottle rendering the second cylindrical. cover and therewith the entire closure structure nonremovable when the second cylindrical cover has been threaded home on said neck.
