.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. LEADER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monmouth, in the county of Warren and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe Thimbles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the 1o art to which it appertains to make and Ilse the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference Inarked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I 5 My invention relates t0 stove-pipe thimbles; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the details of construetion thereof, whereby the thimble may be secured in the hole in the wall or other place, and zo the stove-pipe secured to the thimble in such manner, also, that both attachments may be readily and easily made and detached.

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, and in which the similar letters used as marks of reference apply to the like parts in all the iigures, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved thimble with a section of stove-pipe in place therein. j Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the thimble, stovepipe, and wall. Fig. 3 is a section in the line 00min Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail view to be hereinafter referred to.

The construction and relative arrangement of the parts of the improvement and the ad- 3 5 jacent parts of the common th'imble andstovepipe are as follows:

Letter A represents the thimble, which may be formed of a single cylindrical sect-ion of pipe, as shown in the drawings, orit may be 4o formed in any ordinary manner.

B is an annulus with any desired number of holes b. The annulus B is seated over the thimble, as shown in the drawings, and is held by the wall C on one side, and on its other side by an exterior annular ange, a, on the thimble A. The annulus B may be placed 011 the thimble by passing itover the end farthest from the exterior ange, a, (when the thimble is not in the wall,) and may be removed by a 5o reverse proceeding. The annulus B may be formed as an exterior annular flange on the thimble, or attached thereto in any desired manner, so that it will hold the thimble from beingpushed inward in thehole in the wall; but I prefer attaching it as described, and so that it can be removed from the thimble.

Ears D are attached to one end of thethimble, projecting as shown at Fig.l. These ears D should be of light material, so that when the thimble is inserted in the hole in the wall 6o or chimney O, with the annulus B resting against the wall, the ears may be bent or turned down upon the wall, as shown at Fig.

2, and thus prevent the thimble from being withdrawn by any ordinary means until the ears D are straightened.

E is a common stove-pipe, with ears c secured to its exterior, each having a hole, e', coincident with a hole, b, in the annulus B. Bolts F project through 'and from the holes 7o b, and when the stove-pipe is inserted in the thimble these bolts pass` through the holes c in the ears e, and nuts e may be screwed thereon to hold the stovepipe securely in the thimble.

By cutting the annulus B, as shown by dotted lines g at Fig. 3, the cut portions may be turned outward to form tongues, which may project through the holes c in the ears e, and y be turned down on the ears, as shown in Fig. 8o

I am aware that a thimble provided on its inner end with strips bent outwardly to embrace the inner surface of the chimney-flue, and at its outer end with a ange, which engages with a corresponding flange on thepipecollar, and arernovable collar, is old, and such I do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, as of my invention.

What I claim as new is- 9o The combination, with the stove-pipe thimble having ears D at one end and a ange, a, at the other end, of the removable annulus B, having a series of holes, b, and the stove-pipe having perforated ears c, and screw-bolts and nuts for securingsaid parts together, substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
