TROUSERS, v HANGER Filed July 17, 1944 I NVENTOR. @MZZSW MZLQA Patented July 3, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TROUSER HANGER Lewis H. Hall, Springfield, Mass. Application July 17, 1944, Serial No. 545,244
2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in hangers and is directed more particularly to improvements in hangers for trousers and the like.
The principal objects of the invention are directed to the provision of a hanger for trousers and the like which is characterized by a pair of relatively movable trouser clamping members in combination with means for moving said members between clamping and non-clamping positions.
Various novel features and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter observed from the following description of the invention in the form at present preferred.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side eleyational view of a hanger device embodying the novel features of the invention; and
Figs. 2 and 3 are end elevational views af the device shown in Fig. 1 with the clamping members in clamping and non-clamping positions.
Referring now to the drawing more in detail the invention will be fully described.
Clamping members 2 include arms 4 and bars 6 that are integral and may be separate members secured together or they may be made from the same piece of material.
The upper ends of arms 4 are carried by a pivot l n to which they are secured by pins [2 for swinging movements between the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
A wedge or cam I4 is rotatbly mounted on the pivot In between the arms and is arranged for movements between the clamping and nonclamping positions of the members 2.
The wedge l4 may carry a hook l6 or'other manually engageable member which is adapted to function as an operating member to rotate the wedge.
The bars are adapted and arranged to clamp therebetween the lower ends or cuffs of the legs of trousers which may be inserted therebetween when the members are spread apart as shown in Fig. 3. Then the wedge is rotated to the position shown in Fig. 2 which brings the clamping members into clamping relation as shown in Fig. 2.
The various components may be made from v any material desired. Wood or plastic has been found to be desirable and the parts may be formed so as to provide yieldability whereby the bars 6 clamp the trousers with a yielding action.
The arms and pivot are arranged so that the arms are free to swing on the pivot and may be accomplished in various ways.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended. claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A trousers hanger comprising in combination, a longitudinal pivot member, a pair of clamp members having upper portions pivoted to said pivot member on spaced axes that extend through the longitudinal axis of the pivot member providing lower free ends, said clamp members being swingable on said pivot member whereby the lower ends thereof may assume a separated open position or a closely adjacent closed position, a wedge member between the clamp members rotatable on the pivot member through 360 degrees between open and closed positions of the free ends of said clamp members, said wedge member having opposite side faces acting on adjacent inner faces of the upper portions of the clamp members that converge downwardly from upper to lower sides of said member when it is in the closed position of the clamp members, all adapted and arranged whereby said wedge member may be rotated in opposite direction from said closed position of the clamp members to the open position thereof to move said clamp members to open position thereof and vice versa to closed postion of the clamp members.
2. A trousers hanger comprising in combination, a longitudinal pivot member, a pair of clamp members having upper portions pivoted to said pivot member on spaced axes that extend through the longitudinal axis of the pivot member providing lower free ends, said clamp members being swingable on said pivot member whereby the lower ends thereof may assume a separated open position or a closely adjacent closed position, a wedge member between the clamp members rotatable on the pivot member through 360 degrees between open and closed positions of the free ends of said clamp members, said wedge member having opposite side faces acting on adjacent inner faces of the upper move said clamp members to open position thereof and vice versa, to closed position of the clamp members, and a, manually engageable member extending from the upper sid of said wedge member in the form of a hook for rotating the same.
