invention may be said to comprise the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims together with such variation and modification thereof as will be apparent to one skilled in the art to which the invention pertains.

In the accompanying drawing, the machine of the present invention is shown mounted upon a work table I which has a work support 2 mounted thereon adjacent one end to which is attached a blower casing 3, the casing 3 being secured to the work support 2 by means of bolts 4. The
blower casing 3 has a tangential outlet Stand a rear wall 6 upon which is mounted a motor 1 that has a shaft 8 which extends into the casing 3. The casing 3 has a front wall 9 provided with an opening III of substantially circular forrnk-Tand disposed concentrically with respect to the shaft,

The shaft 8 carries a drum l l within the casing 3 and this drum has a hub portion I! attached to the shaft 8 as shown in Fig. 3 and provided adjacent its inner end with a projecting flange I 3 to which is attached an inner fan forming flange Thedrum' ll has a frontsection that section I of the drum. 'Thesection may be in the form of a one piece casting, the body-portion of which is in the form of a, flat disk attached to the flange l3. The section I 4 has a cyli'fndrical" forwardly extending flang li together with'curved fan blades l6 extending'outwardly from the flange 15 and integral with the disk and has a'fiat' facell that bears, againstthe forward end of thehub I 2 to' fo rm 'the front wall of the drum and a cylindrical 'flange- IIB that'fits within the cylindrical flange 15 of the fan section I4. The flanges l5 and I8 are secured together by means of rivets I 9 and the outer face of the front wall I! of thedrum lies substantially in the plane of the front face of the wall 9 ofthe fan casing. The drum H is of a diameter such that the portion thereof extending into the opening l0 forms a narrow annular slot 20 between the periphery of the drum and the margin of the opening I.
The shaft 8 is the main driven shaft of the machine being a, rotating support either for a cutting element or for apiece of work. In the modification shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the shaft 8 serves as the spindle of a cutting element in the form of an abrasive disk, while in Fig. 5 the shaft serves as the rotary work supporting spindle of a lathe.
The cutting element may be in the form of a sandpaperfacing 2| for the front wall ll of the drum H and this sandpaper facing may ibe secured to the drum by means of a clamping ring 22 slidably mounted upon the drum periphery forwardly of the fan blades l6 which are offset inwardly from the front end of the drum. The ring 22' has one or more bayonet slots 23 that receive lugs 24 projecting from the periphery of the flange l8.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2 the work support may be provided with a horizontal plate 25 that extends across the front wall of the supporting casing somewhat below the axis of the drum H to provide a support for pieces of work being abraded by the action of the abrasive facing on the drum ll. t I
A suitable dust collector which may be in the form of a; filter cloth bag 26 isattached to the tangential outlet 5 of the fan casing which may be directed downwardly to position the collector beneath the table and serves to strain the dust from the air blown through the wall thereof.
The dust collector 26 may be provided with a detachable bottom 21 that, enables the filter bag ing 3, the motor housing having an attaching plate 28 serving. as a closure for an opening in the rear wall of the casing through which the drum and fan are passed upon insertion into or removal from the casing.
