PORTFOLIO Filed Feb. 11, 1943 'IN ENTOR.

ml/M3 Patented June 12, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PORTFOLIO- Norval B. Langworthy, Evanston, Ill. Application Februaryll, 1943, Serial No. 475,576

1 Claim. (01. 281-2) The present invention relates to a novel folder container having a series of pockets or compartments for the reception of bonds, saving certificates, cancelled checks, identifying data, home budgeting systems, insurance policies, and/or other valuable papers. These separate pockets or I compartments are so arranged as to provide a convenient manner and means for segregating these bonds, certificates, money or other papers for difierent purposes such as savings, education, vacation or travel, or for the purchase of a new automobile or other conveyance, new home, ap-

pliances or other conveniences, and for other or portfolio providing a compact and convenient A further object of the present invention is to providea folder or portfolio preferably formed of a single sheet of paper or other fabric so constructed and arranged as to provide a plurality of connected pockets orcompartments for segregating valuable papers including bonds, certificates,'insurance policies and the like, and dividing them in accordance with a predetermined plan or budget.

Further objects are to provide a construction of maximum simplicity, efficiency, economy and ease of assembly and operation, and such further objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and are inherently possessed thereby.

The invention further resides in the construc- Figure an a view in perspective of the portfolio in open or distended position.

, Figure 5 is a plan view of the blank before assembly.

Referring more particularly to the disclosure in the drawing, the novel folder or portfolio is preferably formed of a sheet or blank I of paper or other suitable fabric of desired thickness in the manner shown in Figure 5. This sheet or blank is suitably creased or scored and adapted to be folded on the vertically and horizontally arranged lines 2 and 3, with the broken lines 3 forming the base and the spaced, vertically arranged broken lines 2 forming the opposite sides of a series of pockets or compartments 4, more clearly shown in Figure 4. These pockets or compartments may be of any desired number and in order to divide these pockets, one ormore staples or other securing means 5 are provided along the dividing lines 2, and the end tabsli and l on the lower end sections 8 and 9, re-

.spectively, are folded inwardly and adhesively secured to the edge of the inner face of the upper end sections l0 and H, as shown in Figures 3 and 5. l

The entire assembly may be readily folded-as shown in Figures 1 and 2, and when thus folded,

a suitable securing means such as a string l2 associated with a disc l3 provided on the outer face of the flap or tab I4, is adapted to be wrapped around or encompass the assembly and tion, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and while there is shown therein a preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change, and comprehends other details, arrangements of parts, features and constructions without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.

In the drawing:

Figure 1 is a view in perspective taken fromthe back side of the novel folder or portfolio.

Figure 2 is another view in perspective of the portfolio but showing the outer or top side the-free end of the string wound around the stud I5 of the disc and anchored between the disc and the flap. Each of the pockets or compartments 4 preferably has one or both of its opposite sides notched at l 6 to permit ready removal of the bonds, certificates, or other valuable papers which are to be retained in these pockets.

Although I have referred to certain specific uses of my novel portfolio or folder, it will be readily apparent that its use is not limited thereto, but that it can be employed as a receptacle or container for many additional purposes and in accordance with a pre-determined plan or budget. Likewise, this portfolio or folder may be made in various dimensions so that it can easily be carried in a pocket, purse, etc.

Having thus disclosed the invention, I claim:

A portfolio for the reception of valuable or important papers and the like provided with pockets segregating these papers for different designated purposes in accordance with a predetermined crease to provide a plurality of upper and lower plurality of connected pockets, the pockets when sections, one of the top end sections being profolded together along the vertical creases providvided with a, flap and the opposite bottom end ing a, flat and compact assembly, and means on sections each provided with a tab, the blank the flap adapted when the pockets are folded being folded along its horizontal crease and the 5 together, to retain the portfolio incompact, folded tabs connected to the opposite top end sections, relation.

means at the vertical creases connecting the NORVAL B. LANGWORTI-IY. upper and lower sections together to provided a
