HOLDER Fon FmGERNAIL FILES William Stinson, Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canad Application February 7, 1944, Serial No. 521,415
4 Claims.
The invention relates to a file holder and more especially to a finger nail file holder.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character, wherein a sand-paper finger nail iile can be conveniently held for the easy use thereof in ling the nails on the fingers of a hand, the ille being easily re- ,leased for replacement of a new one when the occasion requires.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character, wherein the re ceiver blade for the file is foldable into a handle part `of the said holder, so that the latter will be compact and can be conveniently carried on,
unique in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, enabling the easy handlingof the le, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred form of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the holder con, structed in accordance with the invention and in open position for the use of the file therein.
Figure 2 is an edge View.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 35 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a side view showing the holder folded.
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken on 40 the line 5--5 of Figure 4, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 6 is a plan view in detail of the retainer clip of the holder.
Figure 7 is .a similar view looking toward the 45 other side. f
Figure 8 is a perspective ViewV of a guide for the clip.
Figure 9 is a perspective view of the runner 50 nates generally the holder constituting the -:present invention and comprises a handle part I0 having pivoted at in one end a foldable bladelike le receiving part I2 which is adapted to swing into the handle part I0 when not in use similar to a knife blade of an ordinary foldable pocket knife. y
The part l2 is cut into through one edge to form a windowed cavity I3 for a, major portion of the length thereof for receiving a sand paper file I4. The inner end of the cavity is rounded at I5 and has tted thereto a springy contact yoke I6, while the opposite outer end I1 vis formed with Yan inner rounded notch I8. The yoke I6 and the notch Il!v accommodate the rounded ends of the file when inserted in the cavity I3 for the retention thereof in the part I2.
Fitted to the end I5 is a wedge action gripper I9 which is -pivoted at 20 and is equipped with a compressor runner 2| movable on guides 22 and such runner wedges the gripper I9 against the file I4 when inserted in the cavity I3 when the part I2 is unfolded for securely holding the said le I4 in, workable position, as the abrasive sides thereto are exposedthrough the windows in said part I2 at opposite sides of the sameto enable the convenient filing of finger nails on manipulation. of the holder A. The runner 2| rides onto the wedging Wings 23 of the gripper I9 for releasably clamping the iile |4 in the part I2 firmly therein.
The runner 2| has' a finger lug 24 so that the runner can be moved by hand.
IThe part I2 is folded into the handle part I0 when the holder A is not in use and thus the latter can be conveniently carried on the person, or in a hand bag or the like.
The end I1 exteriorly thereof has formed thereon a pointed cleaning tip 26 for removing dirt or the like from beneath the nails of a hand.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that as the holder I2 is open at its lower edge, and as the slot 25 of the gripper I9 is open when the runner 2| is retracted, the le I4 may be readily inserted into the holder with its front end in the notch or recess I8, its rear end in contact with the curved spring I6, and its upper edge in the longitudinal grooveI I3 formed in the back of the holder. The spring I6 functions to hold the le I4 in place until the slider 2| is movedL forwardly v to close the slot 25 of the gripper I9 and to move the gripping elements 23 into engagement with 4 the sides of the ille.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the character set forth, comprising a holder open at its sides` and lower edge and provided at one end with a. recess, a spring ,2i 2,376,946 f a i located Within the other end of the holder in facing relation to the recess, a ille carried by the holder with one end in the recess and the other` end in contact with the spring, and ille retaining means at that end of the holder carrying the spring. L'
2. A device of the character set, forth, comprising a holder open at its sides and lower edge and provided at one end' with arecess, 'the ho1der\ f 3. A device as described in claim i, wherein the file retaining means comprises gripping ele. kngrqits located at opposite sides of the ilile and a 1 ner for moving land holding said elements inl .'a engagement with the lei l 4. A device of-the character set forth, comprising a holder open at its sides and lower edge and provided at one end with a recess, the back of the holder being provided; in its inner side with being provided in the lower side of its back with in a longitudinal groove, a le carried by the holder l .f a longitudinal groove, a spring located within the other end f the hold/er in facing relation to the fi recess, a. le carried by the holder with one end in the rec'ess and the other end in contact with the spring, an edge of the le being located in i5 the groove, and le retaining means at that end of the holder carrying the spring.
with one end in the recess and one longitudinal edge in the groove, and means carried by the other end of theholder and releasably engaging the le to retain it in place. v
