Description

a 1945- R. DENNETQT ,3
NECKTIE SHAPER AND FORMER Filed Nov. 12, 1943 Patented May 8, 1945 oNi ED l to gcrjpennett, San FranciscmlCa lif. I
Application N ovember 12, 1943, Serial,No.509,973 1 Claim. (01. '2 153 v This invention relates to a form capable of being inserted between the folds of a knot of a, necktie of the four-in-hand variety, to 'thusmaintain the knot in the required adjusted position, to pre thus assuring an attractive shape to the tie, and
eliminating any tendency of displacement from its ter A designates a four-in-hand necktie having a free end portion B and a running or loose end i efficient knot-shaping and forming operative position. i
An additional objectof the invention is the provision of an unique form of the knot shaper, wherein a core of plastic or similar material is em.- ployed that is equipped with anenlarged upper portion and a tapered lower portion, which upper portion of the core is so shaped. that the contour of the same gives form to the sides and front portion of the knot of the tie, while the lower portion is reduced to eliminate bulkiness and to likewise conform to the shape of the reduced or lower portion of the tie knot. p
An additional object of the invention is the production of a device of the character described, that is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, most durable, positive in operation, and one that can be easily inserted or readily removed from its operative position.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description: I
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same: I
Fig. l is front elevation of'thedevice, comprising the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same,
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the article,
Fig. 4 is side view of a modified form,
Fig. 5 is rear view of the same,
Fig. 6 is a front view of the completed tie with the article in operative position within the knot of the tie, and r Fig. '7 is similar view of the completed tie and the device in operative position, the loose end of the tie being turned aside to thus disclose to advantage the penetration of'the pin in the other I end portion of the tie.
portion C. The outer fold of the necktie that forms a, portion of the knot is indicated by the numeral 5, while the inner fold is indicated by the numeral 6.
The knot shaper and former is preferably made of a plastic composition and is designated as a whole by the numeral 1. The said article embodies in its construction an enlarged upper portion defining a head 8, and a lower reduced portion 9. The front wall I 0 is slightly curved and has protruding therefrom integrally formed downwardly projecting teeth I I, capable of impinging on and being detachably secured to the rear surface of the portion B directly beneath the knot It will be noted that the rear wall l3 of the head 8 of the device and the rear wall I4 of the reduced portion 9, are substantially straight.
As illustrated to advantage in Figs. 4 and 5, instead of an integral formation of the teeth with the device, -I have employed a pair of pin points l5 that penetrate the body of the device, protrude through the front wall I ll and thus providep inted ends I6 capable of engaging the fold of the tie, in the same manner as d the .teeth I I.
Referring to the form, it will be noted that the lower portion is reduced in thickness and width, which construction is effective in eliminating any bulkiness in the lower end of the knot, which enlargement would be present if the lower portion 9, were of the same thickness and width as the head 8. There is thus provided a device that conforms to the shape of a conventional knot ofa four-in-hand tie.
One of the main objects of the present inven-. I
tion is to prevent the accidental displacement of the form when it is in. an adjusted or operative folds of the knot, downward movement of the slip or running end C of the tie will effect a release of the pin I! from the portion C. An upward tilting of the lower end of'the form with the right hand and retention of the lower fold of the tie with the left hand will release the teeth, and permitdown- Referring to the drawing, the referencejcharac a dw w l 0f the ticle.
Tit-OFF C In the-operation of the deViceQ t the z.
has been loosely tied, the article is slipped upwardly between the outer fold 5 and the inner fold 6 of theknot. The knot is then shaped and? formed'to the users taste, and when the desired tensionis obtained and the teeth I I are impinged; in the rear surface of the tie portion B, then the; lower end of the tieis engaged by the pin I7,
