I POT HOLDER y Filed Aug. 5, 1943 l Patented May 1, 1945 UNITED STATES TENToFFlcE g POT HOLDER Lionel W. Norton, New York, N. Y.
Application August 5, 1943, Serial No. 497,480
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders for lifting pots, pans and other items.
An important object of the invention is to provide a flexible pot holder which has a surface especially constructed for the firm gripping of jar caps and other structures as when a tightening action is desired without slippage.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the follow ing description.
In the drawingt' Figure 1 represents a top plan view looking at one side of the holder.
Figure 2 is a top plan view looking at the opposite side of the holder.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view through the holder.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional View showing the resilient sheet.A
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5--5 of Figure 4.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the holder consists of a sheet 5 of exible and resilient material such as rubber or the like and a sheet 6 of some loose fabricated material. The sheets 5 and 6 are of substantially the same contour and are bound at their edges by a binding strip l. The sheet 6 is of loosely knitted or woven material so as to allow ample air spaces to afford good insulation against heat.
The sheet 5, as stated above, is of some resilient material such as rubber and has its outside face criss-crossed by narrow grooves or slits 8. When this surface of the sheet 5 is placed against an article to be lifted or tightened, the channels or grooves 8 will have a tendency to frictonally grip a surface to which the sheet 5 is applied.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter,
Having described the claimed as new is:
A holding pad comprising a sheet of i resilient material having criss-cross grooves in one side thereof to provide a friction gripping face on said side of the sheet, a loosely knit fabric handling sheet applied to the opposite side of said first-mentioned sheet and providing for circulation of air between the hand and said first sheet, and a binding strip for securing the sheets together at their edge portions.
invention, what is LIONEL W. NORTON.
