This invention relates to a hand protector or cloth for use in a kitchen for handling hot utensils such as dishes, pans and other receptacles used in cooking. The main object of the invent-ion is to provide a pad of the character described which is provided with means normally holding the same in a position to be readily grasped in the hand.

' Another object of the invention is to provide a pad of the character described with which is incorporated a frame for holding the pad in position to be readily grasped within the hand, which frame is readily removable when it is desired to clean or replace the pad.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pad and frame member of the characterset forth which is simple in construction and Well adapted for quantity production at comparatively low cost.

Further and more limited objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds and by reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pad constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the frame member removed from the pad; Fig. 8 is a vertical sectional view through the pad with the frame in place; Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a modified form of frame member; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of another modified form of pad and frame member and Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing a still further modified form of frame member.

Referring now to the drawings reference character 1 designates a piece of flexible heat insulating material, such as felt, which is substantially rectangular in shape and stitched transversely as shown at 2, 3, 41 and 5. The stitching provides a pocket at each end of the pad and also a centrally disposed pocket. Arranged within the pad is a frame member 6 shaped as shown most clearly in Fig. 2 and consisting of a single piece of wire having oppositely disposed projections 7 and 8, centrally disposed projections 9 and 10 and V- shaped portions 11 and 12 forming legs. The frame member is inserted within the pad as shown most clearly in Fig. 1. The centrally disposed projections 9 and 10 terminate in an enlarged portion 13 which serves to hold the 1928. frame in place. When the pad is placed on a flat surface the frame member serves to maintain the same in a position to be readily grasped within the hand.

In Fig. 1 there is disclosed a slightly different shaped frame member 6 having legs 1-1 and 15 which are slightly different in shape from the legs 11 and 12. This frame member is otherwise identical with the frame member 6 and serves the same function and is inserted in the pad in substantially the same manner.

In Fig. 5 there is disclosed a modified form of pad 1 which is provided at one side with a flap 16 which is slitted as shown at 17. Inserted within the pad l is a frame member 6 shaped as shown most clearly in Fig. 6. The frame member 6 has

It will now be clear that I have provided a pad of the character described and set forth which will accomplish the objects of the invention as hereinbefore stated. Various other changes may be made in the shape, size and construction of the frame member or pad without departing from the spirit of my invention and I therefore wish my invention to be limited only in accordance with the scope of the appended claims. It is also to be understood that the frame member or pad may be made of any desired material which will be suitable for the purpose for which they are intended.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A pad for handling hot articles and consisting of a piece of flexible heat insulating material having transversely extending pockets formed at its opposite ends and centrally thereof, a one piece frame member having a plurality of projections thereon removably secured within said pockets and serving to maintain said pad in position to be readily grasped in the hand.

2. A pad for handling hot articles of diiferent sizes and shapes and consisting of a piece of heat insulating material, a frame detachably secured to said piece of heat insulating material and having a plurality of resilient projections thereon so shaped and disposed as to maintain the pad in a position to be readily grasped Within the hand.

3. A pad for handling hot articles of different sizes and shapes and consisting of a piece of heat insulating material, a frame secured to-said pad and having a plurality of gsignature.
