DEVICE FOR USE IN CONNECTION WITH ASH- TRAYS FOR CIGARETTES Filed July 20. .134
- I I ZnvenZZr T/Eamas' Zulam,
Patented Apr. 24, 1945 DEVICE FOR USE IN CONNECTION WITH ASH TRAYS FOR CIGARETTES Thomas Richard Lulham, London, England Application July 20, 1943, Serial No. 495,438 In Great Britain May 20, 1943 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to a device embodying the combination of a support or, rest for a lighted cigar or cigarette and an extinguisher for a burning cigarette, the two being combined in one piece, so that each forms an essential part of the other.
The device consists essentially of a member of I which a space between the walls is V-shaped in cross-section, such member being provided on at least one of its upper edges with one or more depressions for the support of a cigarette or a cigar, the device comprising three walls, two of them being disposed substantially vertically, and being connected together by the third wall, which is integral with and inclined relatively to the two first-mentioned walls. i
The device may be fixed to or form an integral part of an ash tray or may be a separate article to be used with any receptacle serving as an ash vertical front member e and a vertical back member e, these two members being integrally connected together by an inclined member f. The upper edge of the member 6 is formed with two depressions g, and the upper edge of the member'e with two co-operating depressions 9', but these latter depressions g are not essential. It can be seen that the depressions g are somewhat deeper than the depressions g, the reason for this being that the upper edge of the member e is at a somewhat higher level than the upper edge of the member e. This is not essential,
but serves to indicate which is the front of the device, i. e. the taller member 2, nearer to the burning end of the cigarette on the rest, as shown in Fig. 1.
A cigarette stood, as shown in Figure 3, with the burning end down'perpendicularly into the V, so that its end is gripped just sufiiciently-to keep it upright, is extinguished promptly and fumelessly, being choked out from shortage of oxygen; the end is carbonized, and the cigarette, if unfinished, can be re-lighted and will smoke as sweetly as ever without the taste being in any way afiected, without th cigarette being crumpled, as practically no pressure is needed to fix it perpendicularly. This will mean a substantial saving to many smokers.
Iclaim:
A device adapted to serve as a combined support or rest for a cigar or cigarette and cigarette extinguisher, such device comprising a member of which a space between the walls is 'V-shaped in cross-section, such member being provided on at least one of its upper edges with one or more depressions for the support of a cigarette or a cigar, the device comprising three walls, two of
