l kind has a two-piece handle the pieces of which are tubular and are disconnectably attached together and provided with longitudinal slits whereby each' piece, when detached, can be fitted over theedges of the safety razor and form with the remaining parts' of the razor a more compact .whole whilst guarding the cutting edges of the blade.

Referring to the drawing, in the construction shown therein, -asapplied by way of .example'to the Well known kind of safety razor comprising a -to be screwed on to the post 4.
.double-edged safety razor `blade I clamped between a backing plate 2 and a guard plate 3 by the aidof a handle screwed on to a screwthreaded post 4 provided on the backing plate 2 and projecting through apertures in the blade I and the guard plate 3, I form the handle tubular in the main and in two parts 5 and B respectively, each of a length which is the same as that of the guard plate. The handle may be circular in cross-section as shown, or it may be oval in cross-section.
The tubular handle part 5 is provided with( an end 'I in which there is a screw-threaded central hole il` to enable the part 5 to be screwed on tothe screw-threaded post 4 in the usual manner. The said part 5 has a longitudinal slit 9 extending from end to end and breaking into the screwthreaded hole. The part 5 is formed at its other end with a portion I of externally reduced diameter.
The tubular handle part 6 has a longitudinal slit II extending `from end to end. The part 6 is formed at one end with a portion I2 of internally' increased diameter. At the other end it is formed with a portion I3 of reduced diameter.
A knob I4 has a recess I5 which fits with a tight sliding iit on the portion I3 of the part 6. The knob I4 also has a screw-threaded hole I 6 which breaks into the recess I5 and is adapted Externally the knob I4 has a peripheral surface I1 which is concave. I
Both tubular handle parts 5 and 6 are of slightly resilient or springy material. In the outer side of the backing plate 2 there are two channels IB provided at the requisite distance from `the side edges thereof and extending from end to end thereof parallel with the side edges. The
-width of the slits 9 and I I is normally very slight- .ly less than the total thickness of the guard plate 3, blade I and the thickness of the backing plate 2 measured from` its inner side to the bottom of `.the channelI8. Two channels I 9 may also be provided in the guard plate 3, the slits 9 and II in that case being correspondingly narrower.
In operation, to use the handle, the externally reduced portion II of the part 5 is inserted in the internally reduced portion I2 of the part 6 to connect the two parts together and form a, handle of convenient length for handling. The knob I4 is placed on the reduced portion I5 to make the handle more comfortable to manipulate.
The handle is then screwed on to the screwthreaded post 4 in the usual manner by means of its end 'I having the screw-threaded hole 8. The parts are then in the position shown in Figures l to 4. To store the safety razor in a compact form and guard the edges thereof, the handle is unscrewed from the post 4 and its two parts `5 and 6 are pulled apart. The knob I4 is pulled off the -part 6. The part is then slid on to the one edge of the assembled guard plate 3, blade I and backing plate 2 from one end thereof so that they enter the slit 9 and one edge of the slit engages one of the channels I8, The other edge of the slit engages one of the channels I9 Where provided. The part 5 is slid along the said edge until it completely covers the said edge. Theedge of the assembled guard plate 3, blade I and backing plate 2 at one side is now situated in the slit 9 and interior of the part 5 which therefore is compactly stored and guards the said edge. Due to the chosen Width of the slit 9 and the resiliency of the part 5, the edges of the slit 9 grip the said edge and the part 5 is thereby prevented fromaccidentally sliding oif the said edges. The part 6 is applied to the other edge of the assembled guard plate 3, blade I and backing plate 2 in a similar manner. The handle, instead of projecting a considerable distance at an angle as it does in the normal position, lies compactly on the said edges and the safety razor can be conveniently and safely carried in the pocket if desired. The knob I4 is inverted and sci'ewed on to the post in the inverted position by means of its screw-threaded hole IG so that it forms a guard therefor. When the knob is screwed tight parts of its peripheral surface Il press externally on the parts 5 and 6 and thereby clamp them and thereby give further security against longitudinal displacement of the parts 5 and 6 on the said edges. The parts are then in the position shown in Figures 5 to 7.
To remove the handle parts 5 and 6 when it is desired to use the safety razor, the parts are slid in reverse direction off the said edges after the knob has been unscrewed from the post 4.

A safety razor comprising Aa base plate, a screw-threaded post on the base plate, a guard plate fitting on the said post, a handle part having a longitudinal slit from end to end, a screwthreaded hole at one end lof the handle part for screwing on to the said post, an external reduction at the other end of the handle part, a second handle part having a longitudinal slit from end to end, and an internal enlargement at one end of the second handlev part for removably tting on to the said external reduction, the said slits being for tting the two handle parts over theedges of the assembled base plate and guard plate when the safety razor is not in use.

A safety razor comprising a base plate, a screw-threaded post provided on the base plate, a guard plate fitting on the said post, a handle part of springy material having a longitudinal slit, a second handle part of springy material having a longitudinal slit, means on one of the handle parts for screwing it on to the screwthreaded post, and means on both of the handle parts for detachably connecting them together end to end, the said handle parts forming removable guards for the edges of the safety razor and when in the guarding position gripping the said edges with their slits by virtue of their springmess.

A safety razor comprising a base plate, a screw-threaded post on the base plate, a guard plate fitting on the said post, ta handle part having a longitudinal slit, means on the handle part for screwing it on to the screw-threaded post, a second handle part having a longitudinal slit, means on the two handle parts for detachably connecting the two handle parts together and channels on the base plate for engagement with the said slits.

A safety razor comprising a base plate, a screw-threaded post on the base plate, a guard plate iitting on the said post, a handle part having a longitudinal slit, means on the handle part for screwing it on to the screw-threaded post, a second handle part having a longitudinal slit, means on the two handle parts for detachably connecting them together, and channels in the guard plate for engagement with the said slits.
6. A safety razor comprising a base plate, a
screw-threaded post on the base plate, a guard plate fitting on the said post, a handle part having a longitudinal slit, means on the handle part for screwing it on to the screw-threaded post, a second handle part having a longitudinal slit, means on the two handle parts for detachably connecting them together, a removable knob tting on to the second handle part, and having a screw-threaded hole for screwing it on to the sciew-threaded post.

A safety razor comprising a base plate, a screw-threaded post on the base plate, a guard plate fitting on the said post, a handle part having a longitudinal slit, means on the handle part for screwing it on to the said post, a second handle part having a longitudinal slit, means for `detachably connecting the two handle parts together, a removable knob fitting on the second handle part and having a screw-threaded aperture for screwing it on to the said post, and a surface on the said knob for clamping Jthe handle parts to the safety razor when the said handle parts in a detached state are situated in guarding position on the edges of the safety razor.
