This invention relates to a safety razor for.
oneor more razor blades.
rl`he principal object of vthe presentinventionis a safety razor which may be produced at a comparatively low cost, due to no vel features of construction, resulting in a savlng -o'imaterialm particularly as regards the razor blades which may be extremely narrow.
The nature oithe invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will appear when the following specification 1s read in connection withthe accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a top View of a razor embodying the eatures of the present invention on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation, the handle having a portion thereof broken away, andthe blade holder being shown in one position in full lines, and in its other position in dot and dash lines.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the parts of theholder in separated relation.
Figc is a sectional view taken on the I me 4 4 of Fi 1, and looking in the direction indicated y the arrows.
Fig. 5 is van elevation of the guard 'mem-i ber. v
Fig. 6 is a perspective view otone of the 4clamping members of the holder.
Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing it will be aparent that, the safetyv razor of the present I linvention will include a .razor blade holder 10 which isvdesigned to hold one or more extremely narrow razor blades, indicated at 11. The holder 10 consists of a central guard member 12, and identical clamping members 13 which coactv with the central guard member 12 to hold the blade or blades 11 in place. The guard member 12 has the usual teeth 14 along onel of its lateral edges, and near the other lateral edge in each of the ends is a notch 15. Each vof the clamping members 13 is beveled as at 16 along one of its lateral edges, and on the other lateral edge at each end the member 13 has a lugor projection 17. Each clam ing member is equal in length to the length o the guard member` 12, and the lugs or projections 17 respectively at the opposite ends of the clamping members 13 are receivable in the notches 15 in the guard member 12. The lugs or projections 17 pre' vent relative endwise movement of the guard member 12 with respect to the clamping members and also limit the insertion of the blades ing the holder 1() against movement.
Lis to be understood that one -which may be of any preferred pattern and which has -a threaded bore 19 in one end thereof.
Coacting means is provided between the holder and the handle so as to mount the holder for pivotal movement with respect .to'
the handle, and which also serves for securl The said coacting mea-ns consists of spaced lugs 20 extending laterally from the edge of each of the clamping members 13 having the projections 17 @ne of the lugs 20 has an angularly disposed portion 21. Each =of the lugs 20 has a slot-shaped hole 22. an element 23 has one end thereof threaded for threading engagement with the threads of the bore 19 and the opposite end thereof carries an arbor 24 extendln transversely with respect to the element. 'l 1e opposite ends of the arbor 2d respectively are disposed in the slot-shaped holes 22 respectively-of the lugs 20 on the clamping members 13 when the latter are brought together. 18 onto the threaded end of the element 23,
quence the arbor 24 willbe drawn toward the handle 18 and will exert pressure on the end lwalls of all of the slot-shaped holes 22, settin up a clamping effect. ln this way the blaes 11 are clamped in place in the holder 10 for carrying out shaving o erations. 1t lade 11 at a time will be used according to the position of the holder with respect to the handle. The opposite sides ofea'ch lug 20 has a flat edge designated 25, by virtue of which the end ofthe handle 18 may be brought into such a relationship with -respect to the lugs 20 as to hold the holder 10 inthe proper angularly disposed position. By loosening the handle 18, the holder may be swung from one-position at one side of the longitudinal axis of the handle to the opposite side thereof. By again -tightening up' on thehandle the holder 1f) may be secured againstl movement with the blades securely clamped in place.v
'.lo remove the blades for the purpose of replacing them it is only necessary to unscrew Vthe handle 18 which allows relative pivmtal movement of the clamping members By screwing the handle eel 13. Due to the fact that the holes 22 in the l lugs 2'0 are slot-shaped, it is possible to obtain the pivotal movement in spite of the lugs or projections 17 being disposed in the the pivot and the lugs to maintain the clamp notches 15. It will also be apparent that by providing the portions 21 on certain of the lugs 20, pressure will be'equally dist-ributed when clamping action is set up.
I claim: v
11 `In a safety razor, blade clamping members, a pair of spaced luds oneach clamping member, each of said ugs having .a slotshaped hole, a.pivot extending transversely of the lugson both clamping members in said 'slot shaped holes respectively inthe lugs to 'allow the clamping members to have pivotal movement, andalso movement toward and away from each other, and means'acti'ng on ing members in clamping relationship.
2. In a safety razor, blade clamping memyYork and State of New York thisv 21st day bers, a pair of spaced lugs `on each clamping member, each of said. lugs having a slot shaped hole, a pivot extending transversely of the lugs on both clamping members in said slot shaped holes respectively in the lugs to v v allow the clamping members to have pivotal movement, and also movement ltoward `and away from each other, ascrew threaded ele- .ment connected with the pivot atone end,
and ahandle adapted for threading engagementwith said element and to acton said.
lugs to maintain the clamping members in clamping relationship. V i
3. In a safety razor, a blade holder comprising'a central guard member and a pair of clamping'members whichV coact With'thel guard member to hold two bladesltherebetween, the clamping members having lugs on 4the back edges thereof to limit the insertion of December A. 1927.
