Description

GAS VALVE CONTROL ATTACHMENT Filed June 25, 1942 INVENTOR JOHN S ANDREWS Patented Mar. 20, 1945 H 2,371,727 7 Y JUL-GAS VAL E doN'rao-L ATTAQHMENT A v v John S; AnGI'CwS LOS Angeles, Calif. I l Application June 2 5, 1942, Serial No. 448,391
1 Claim. (cum-48s); i 1
My invention relates to an attachment to be used in connection with the pilot and main burner valves for controlling the same and the objects of-my invention are:
First, to provide an attachment of this class which prevents the opening of the main valve until after the pilot valve has first been opened;
Second, to provide an attachment of this class ventional typeinow; in use and are no part of my present invention. 4 The main burner valve 3 and the pilot burner valve 5 are usually placed in certain spaced relawhich is applicable for use in connection with various types of main and pilot valves now in use;
Third, to provide an attachment of this class which is positive inits action;
Fourth, to provide an attachment of this class which when in certain position the pilot valve cannot be closed while the main valve is open because the main valve must be closed before the pilot valve can be closed;
Fifth, to provide an attachment of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, easy toapply, easy to operate, eflicient in its action and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order. a
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters. of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure l is a top or plan view of a main and pilot valve "arrangement shown in connection with the burners fragmentarily and showing my attachment positioned thereon with the pilot valve closed and therefore the main valve is locked or latched against movement; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of my attachment shown in connection with the valve taken fr'omthe line 2-2 of Fig. l and showing portions in elevation to facilitate the illustration and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing the valves open.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing.
The gas distributor brackets I, gas conductor 2, main burner valve 3, main burner valve stem control member 4, pilot burner valve 5, pilot burn.. er valve stem control member 6 and control plates 1 and 8 constitute the principal parts and portion with each other as shown best in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing. Secured on the upper end of the stem 3a of the main burner valve 3 is the main burner valve stem control member 4 and is secured thereon by means of a pin 4a, the member 4 being provided with a recess 4b in which the upper end'of the valve stem 3a. extendsc This control member 4 is provided with an outwardly extending flange 40 intermediate its ends and is provided with a square recess 4d centrally in its upper end which serves for receiving a squareended key for turning this member-4 together with the valve stem 3a and the valve 3. This member 4 is also provided with a V-shaped vertical slot 4e in one side thereof as shown best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.
Secured on the upper end of the valve stem So.
by means of a pin 6a is the pilot burner valve stem control member 6, said member G being provided with a recess 61) in its lower end which is adapted to receive the upper end of the valve stem 5a, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
This member 6 is also provided with an outit being noted that the slot Se is stationed onequarter turn or at right angles to the slot 4e when the valves 3 and 5am both in closed position, as shown best in Fig. l of the drawing. 1
Positioned over the upper ends ofthe members 4 and 6 and resting on the flanges 4c and 6c is a strap-member I which is provided with two circular holes therein spaced the proper distance to hold the members 4 and li in certain spaced relation with each other but permit their turning in said strap member 1.
Positioned on top of the member I and over the members 4 and 6 is another strap member 8 which is provided with elongated holes 8a and 8b and on the inner side are provided V-shaped lug portions 80 and 8d which are so positioned and spaced from each other than when the lug 8d is on the outside of the circular portion of the memberli, the lug 8c is positioned in the slot 4ev so that the valve stem control member 4 cannot in their connected relations'may be of any conbeturned with the key. This is when the pilot valve is in closed position. However, if the memher 6 is turned so that the slot Se in the member 6 faces toward the control member 4, then the member 8b may enter. the slot By in which case the member 4 may be turned together with the valve stem 3a and the valve 3 to openposition by simply placing the key in the recessAd and turning the same. The turning of the member 4 will shift the member 8 endwise so that the member 8d enters the slot 6e.
Though -I i have shown and :described a r-particular construction, combination "and l arrangement of parts and portions, Ido not wish to be forth in the appended claim.
hei s-and provided with V-shaped lug portions Having thus described my invention, -what--I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut is: I In a'device-of the class described, the combination of a pair of vertically disposed revoluble members in spaced relation to each other, control members secured on the upper ends of said revoluble members, each of said control members provided with a V-shaped slot positioned longitudinally of said control members at their upper ends, one being positioned a quarter turn from the other when both revoluble members are in certain relation to each other, and longitudinally shiftable means for engagement with 'oneof said v-shaped slots and the outer surface of the other control member in either longi- ;:'tudinal1y shifted position, said means including a strap provided with openings therein slightly longer f-than the diameter of said control memada-pted toflt in said V-shaped slots one at a time,
- saidstra'pautomatically shiftable longitudinally with the turning of one of said control members.
