ADJUSTABLE PIGKING MOTION Filed Feb. 14, 1942 2 Sheets-sheaf. 2
Inventor Patented Mar. 13, 1945 ADJUSTABLE PICKING MOTION Peter Emille Provost, Pawtucket, B. 1. Application Februarym, 1942, Serial No. 430,984
4 Claims. (01. 139-150) The present invention relates to new and use-. ful improvements in pick motions and in par-- ticular to picking motions on automatic filling changing Draper looms, and comprises an improvement on my prior Patent No. 2,229,899, dated January 28, 1941.
An object of the present invention is to provide simple and practical means for adjusting the pickershoe on the picker stick, and which at the same time is efficient and reliable in performance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view through the picker stick with the shoe shown" in plan.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure l, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially v is inserted and held in position by the head l2 of the bolt.
The shank i is of channel shape in crosssection and has its upper end offset from the picker stick, as shown at l3, and threaded through the offset upper end I3 is an adjusting screw I4 adapted to bear against the tongue l5 positioned in the channel of the shank, the
tongue also being of channel shape in cross-section and in which the picker stick is positioned. The set screw I4 is secured in locked position by a jam nut I6. The tongue I5 is also formed with a vertical slot IT to freely accommodate the bolt 6.
Positioned between the tongue l5 and the picker stick- 5 is a plate l8 having prongs l9 adapted for embedding in the picker stick, the plate also having an opening 2!] to receive the bolt 6.
The upper end of the tongue I5 is formed with a shoulder 2i underlying a shoulder formed on the upperend of the plate l8 and through which a set screw 23 is threaded, the lower end of the screw being adapted to bear upon the shoulder 2|, as shown to advantage in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings. Theset screw 23 is secured in adjusted position by a jam nut 24.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the shoe 9 may be adjusted vertically on the picker stick by loosening the bolt 6 and loosening the set screws l4 and 23, and the tongue I5 may likewise Having thus described the invention what I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a picker stick, a shoe adjustably positioned on the stick, said shoe including a shank having a vertical .slot therein, a bolt fixed to the stickand positioned in said slot for vertically adjusting the shoe on the'stick, a tongue positioned between the shank and the stick, and including a part resting on the shank and means including vertical and horizontal set screws bearing respectively against the top and side of the tongue and adapted for securing the same in vertically ad justed position relative to the stick.
2. In a device of the class described, a picker stick, a shoe adjustably positioned on the stick, said shoe including a shank having a vertical slot therein, a bolt vertically fixed relative to the stick and positioned in said slot for vertically adjusting the shoe on the stick, a tongue positioned between the shank and the stick, a shoulder on the upper end of the tongue overlying and resting on the shank, a vertica1 set screw carried by a part fixed relative to the picker stick and bearingagainst the shoulder of the tongue, and a horizontal set screw carried by the shank and bearing against the tongue.
3. In a device of the class described,fa picker stick, a shoe adjustably positioned, on the stick, said shoe including a shank having a vertical slot therein, a bolt carried by the stick and positioned in' said slot for vertically adjusting the shoe on the stick, a tongue loosely positioned on the bolt at one side of the shank, a plate positioned between the tongue and the picker stick and secured against movement relative to the latter, a shoulder on the upper end of the tongue resting on the shank, a shoulder on the upper end of the plate overlying the first-named shoulder, a set screw carried by the second shoulder engaging the first shoulder for vertically adjusting the tongue relative to the stick, and a set screw carried by the shank and engaging the tongue to secure the same against relative vertical movement.
4. In a device of the class described, a picker stick, a shoe adjustably positioned on the stick, said shoe including an upstanding channeled shank having a vertical slot, a tongue of channel shape in cross-section positioned in the shank, said tongue receiving the stick and said tongue also having a vertical slot aligned with the slot of the shank, a plate interposed between the tongue and the stick and anchored to the latter, a bolt carried by the stick and inserted through said slots, and means operating in vertical and horizontal directions against the tongue for adjustably securing the shank and tongue longitudinally of the stick.
