Description
DISPENSER Filed April 28, 1942 2 Sheets-Sheet l Inventor MaCh 6, A. REED ET AL DSPENSER Filed April 28, 1942 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor /Vt-l/g/re Healy Feed 72 Eeden/i' /evzlle Feed Patented Mar. 6, 1945 VAlfred Henry Reedand Frederick Neville Keeth4 Schenectady, NQKY. V i Application April 2s, 1942,fseria1No. 440,850 1 solenne (c1. zzz-10s) The present invention relates to newand useful improvements in dispensers ofthe collapsible tube type, particularly for tooth paste, shaving cream, et cetera, and has `for its primary object to provide', in a manner as hereinafter set forth, f
a novel combination and arrangement `whereby substantially all. of the contentsof the container may be conveniently ejectedtherefrom in a neat, sanitary manner, thus preventing waste. y
Another very important'object of the invention is to provide `a dispenser ofthe character described embodying a construction and arrangement whereby'products of the aforementioned character may be satisfactorily sold and used in collapsible tubes or containers of Cellophane lined paper or other suitable material than tin, lead, et cetera, such as are in widespread use at present. I
Other objects of the invention areto provide a dispenser of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable,4 highly eicient and reliable in use, compact, light in` weight, attractive in appearance and which may bemanufactured atlow cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of lthe invention willbecome apparent from a study ofthefollowing specication, taken in connection with theaccompanying drawings wherein like characters of refer- Y ence designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view-'in side elevation of a dispenser constructed in accordance with the present invention. f 4
Figure 2 is a view in vertical longitudinal section through the device, f
Figure 3 is al view in horizontalsection through the device.
Figures 4 and 5 are cross-sectional views, taken substantially on the lines 4-4 and 5-5,` respectively, of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a View the ejectors. K
Figure 7 is a view in horizontal section through the forward end portion of the collapsibletube.
Referring now to the drawings, in detail, it, will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an elon-A gated collapsible tube or container I of suitable material, said container being of substantially the shape shown to advantage in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings. The forward end portion of the collapsible container I is folded and has formed therein an opening for the reception of one end portion of a discharge neck 2. Pressed over this in side elevation of one of endportion of the containerr'L'around the neck 2, is ametallif;` clip 3;r viAfter-the container I is 1 loaded, the'rear end thereof is attened and closed by ametallicclipl.
' An elongated housingf5 fof: suitable material isv provided for the receptionsoi the collapsible container I. The forwardrendsof the housing 5`has formedithereina counterbored opening 1 which accommodates the neck 2 and the central y portion of the clip `3. Aretaining nut 8 is threaded on the neck2gafter 'which a removable capy Sis appliedto said-neck. Y
The housing 5 further includes,v on its rear end,A y
a removable closureflll.v Spring latches II on the side walls IZof-'the housing 5v releasably secure th'e'closure` I0 1in positionvon said hous-l mg' y The top 'and'fbottomIBfand I4, respectively, of the housing 5 havel formed' longitudinally therein grooves or channels I5. end l of vthe housing 5 has formed therein a vertical groove I6.v A" vertical groove I'I (see Fig. 4) is provided in theclosure I0. l'The grooves I5,l I6 and/I1 communicate and'accommodate the- clips 3 and 4 when thel collapsible container y v I is inserted infthe'housing'S.-
, The side walls I2 of the housing 5 have formed therein longitudinally elongated openings I8`.'
The openings I8 accommodate electors -in the form ofplates ,I9 which are'engageablevwith the opposite sidesfof thecontainer I -for squeezing i and collapsingsad container therebetween. lThe walls of the openings I8 are beveled for permit'- tingthe 'correspondingly shaped vedges of the ejector's `I,9,to;' seat thereon;4 Springs 20 are ymount- 'edoril thef'forwardjendffand the" closure AIll of rthe housing 5 foropening or spreading the ejectors IS. -The top and bottom I3 and lIII of the housing 5 have formed transversely therein guide channels 2l. Lugs 22 on the upper land lower edges of the ejectors I9 are operable in the guide channels 2I. y y
It is thought that the manner in which the dispenser functions will be readily apparent from a consideration oi the foregoing. Briey, the
\ closure I0 is removed to permit the collapsible container I to be inserted in the housingli, the
end portions ofthe clips 3 and 4 traveling in the grooves I5. When the dischargeneck 2 projects through the opening 1 and the clip 3 seats in the groove I6, the closure I0 is applied, the groove I'I therein receiving the 4clip 4. The nut 8 is then screwed on the discharge neck 2` and tightened against the forward end 6 of the housing 5; p Thus, the collapsible container I isiirmlysecured in The forward v .position in the housing. Of course,l the cap 9 is the thumb and ngers of' the hand which holds the device. When the ejectors I 9 are thus forced inwardly the collapsible container I is squeezed therebetween and .the desired quantityofpaste or cream is forced therefrom; y; i.y j
It is believed that thgmanyadvantages ofla dispenser constructed inr accordance with ythe present invention will be readily understood, and
valthough a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to. be. understood that changes in the details of 'construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which Will fallwithinfthe scope'`vr l e 2c of the invention as claimed.
