3 Claims. (Cl. 28-715) This invention-relates to yarn forwarding apparatus, and more 'particularlyit relates to an improved construction of yarn forwarding apparatus comprising a feed wheel having peripheral yarn feeding surfaces of increasing ,diameterfrom front to rear.
Yarn forwarding apparatus comprising a socalled stepped" feed wheel, having peripheral yarn feeding surfaces of increasing diameter from front to rear, and a yam guide roller spaced therefrom. are c mmonly used in the transport of yarn from a spinning bath to a'collecting device, for example a spinning bucket. The use of such a stepped feed wheel and spaced guide roller involves an objectionable operational difficulty in positioningthe yarn thereon. After the yarn has been passed around the peripheral yarn feeding surface of smaller diameter and about the spaced yarn guide roller, the operators hand cannot pass to the yarn feeding surface of larger diameter without obstruction by the yarn passing to the, said surface of smaller diameter. This necessitates transferring the yarn from one hand to the other and around the yarnpassing to the surface of smaller diameter. As the spinning speeds are gradually increased, this ,becomes a feat which not all operators can perform.
It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a yarn forwarding apparatus comprising a stepped feed wheel and a spaced yarn guide roller which can be easily threaded with one hand.

Two freely rotatable, grooved yarn guide rollers l8 and 20 are positioned to pass the yarn from its source, for example a spinning bath, to the smaller diameter yarn feeding'surface 8 through the space defined by the peripheral surfaces of feed wheel 8 and guide roller' l8 and the common tangents to these peripheral surfaces.
Guide roller I8 will therefore be positioned at some point rearward of yarn feeding surface It. and guide roller 20 will be positioned at some point within the above-defined space. By this construction of guide rollers l8, I8 and '28 and stepped feed wheel 8, the yarn can be threaded onto the yarn forwarding apparatus with one hand in a continuous motion in the following manner: The yam 22 .is passed from its'source about guide roller l8, thenabout guide roller 20, then about yarn guiding surface 8, then then about yarn guiding surface It, and then to its destination as shown by the arrows in Figure 2. Furthermore, by the use of a feed wheel having slightly conical yarn forwarding surfaces and with the axes of the feed wheel and the cooperating yarn guide rollers slightly askew to each other, as shown in the drawing, several wraps of the yarn can be taken about each step of the feed wheel and yarn guide roller.
Since it is obvious that many changes and modifications can be made in the above-described details without departing from the nature and spirit of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited thereto except as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. Yarn forwarding apparatus comprising a feed wheel having peripheral yarn feeding surfaces of increasing diameter from front to rear, a yarn guide roller spaced from said feed wheel and adapted to guide the yarn from one-yarn feeding surface'to another yam feeding surface of greater diameter, and means for passing yarn to the yarn feeding surface of smallest diameter aerated through the space defined by the peripheral surfaces of the wheel and roller and the common tangents to these surfaces.

Yam forwarding apparatus comprising a feed wheel having peripheral yarn feeding surfaces of increasing diameter from front to rear, a yarn guide roller spaced from said feed wheel and adapted to guide the yarn from one yarn feeding surface to another yarn feeding surface of greater diameter, and yarn guide rollers positioned for passing yam to the yarn feeding mirface of smallest diameter through the space defined by the peripheral surfaces of the wheel and roller and the common tangents to these surfaces.
3. Yarn forwarding apparatus comprising a feed wheel having peripheral yarn feeding surfaces of increasing diameter from front to rear.
a yarn guide roller spaced from said feed wheel and adapted to guide the yarn from one yarn feeding surface to another yarn feedingv surface of greater diameter, and grooved yarn guide rollers positioned for passing yarn to the yarn feeding surface of smallest diameter through the space defined by the peripheral surfaces of the wheel and roller and the common tangents to these surfaces.
