.2 Claims. T (Cl. 158-76) This invention relates to blow torch burner construction, the primary object of the invention being to provide a burner wherein. perfect combustion will be insured, for the efficient operation of the burner.
An important object of the invention is to provide a burner including a fuel nozzle and an air nozzle, so arranged with re'spect to each other,`
that a jet of air is directed through the fuel issuing from the fuel nozzle, at right angles to the `path of travel of the fuel, resulting in effectingxa complete atomizing of the oiland perfect mingling of the oil with the air, forming ,a highly combustible mixture.
Still another, object of the invention is to provide a burner including a curved air nozzle located directly over the fuelL nozzle, the curved nozzle providing a hood against `which a fine stream of fuel is directed, whereby the fuel is divided and caused to swirl on its `passage through the air jet.

The burner block is formed with an upper bore in which the air pipe 8 is positioned and through which air enters the air nozzle 9 which is positioned in theiinnr end of the bore so that the inner end of'the nozzle 9 extends into the burner shield.
As clearly shown by Figure 3 of the drawing,
being of a length to extend an appreciable distance within the burner shield 5. i
Formed in the wall of the extension l2, and disposed directly under the hood ID, is an orice i3 through which a iinestream of fuel is directed to the curved surfaces of the hood I 0. Because of the curved surfaces of the hood Ill, it will be seen that the fuel, as it strikes the curved surfaces, will be caused to split and follow` the curved surfaces with the result that the fuel takes a swirling movement in a direction at right angles to the jet of air, passing through the hood, resulting in eiecting a complete atomizlng of the oil and perfect mingling of the oil or fuel with the air, insuring perfect combustion.
The inner end of the extension l2 is closed by means of the plug I4 which may be removed for the purpose of cleaning the burner.
The supporting band indicated at l5 is secured to the end wall 6 of the burner shield, adjacent to the burner opening thereof, and provides a support for the burnerblock 1. The supporting band is formed with a threaded opening in which th"e bolt I6 operates to contact the burner block and hold the burner block in position within the burner opening. By removing the bolt I6 it will be obvious that the burner block may be readily removed to facilitate the cleaning and repairing of the burners.
From the foregoing it will be `seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a burner which will completely atomize the oil or fuel, insuring perfect combustion, for the `purpose described. p
What is claimed is:
l. A burner comprising a tubular shield having Ventilating openings formed in the wall thereof, an end wall closing one end of the shield, a burner block having an extension fitted in an opening of the endwall, said burner block having superimposed horizontal bores, an air'pipe extending into the uppermostbore, the inner end of the air pipe being upwardly inclined from the lower side to the upper side thereof, providing a ltransversely curved hood, said extension `having an orice formed in the upper surface thereof and adapted to direct a stream of fuel into the hood against the curved surface thereof, at right` angles to the flow of air through said hood, and
means for adjustably supporting the burner block on the tubular shield.

A burner comprising a tubular shield having openings in the wall thereof, an end wall closing one end of the shield, said end wall having an opening, a burner block positioned within the opening of the end wall of the shield, said burner block having superimposed horizontal bores, an air pipe extending through the uppermost bore of the burner -hloekwthe' innemend` of Vsaid air l0 pipe extending an `appreciable distance beyond the inner end of the burner block, the lower portion of said inner end of the air pipe being cut away providing a hood, said burner block having a, vertical bore communicating with the lowermost bore of the burner block and through which a stream of fuel may be directed 'into astream of air at right angles to the flow of air into the burner shield
