TOY CAP-EXPLODER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 236,599, dated January 11, 1881.
Application filed June 2, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LOUIS KYSER and ALFRED O. REX, both of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Toy Gap- Exploders, of which the following is a specilication.
Our invention relates to that class of toys in which a fulminating toy cap is exploded by the movement of some part of such toy; and our invention consists in attaching the figure of a monkey or other animal to a long stick by a peculiarly -constructed casting, whereby holes are cast without cores; and, further, in pivoting to the body of the monkey an arm in form preferably representing a bell-crank, and having the hand thereon eupshaped, for the purpose of holding the cap, which is made of paper, and the fulminating substance; and, finally, in securing to the arm a cord by which said arm is operated so as to move the hand up and explode the cap against the mouth of the monkey, all of which construction is more fully set out in the following specification, referred to in the appended claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings.

A is the body of a monkey or other animal,
and is made of cast-iron or other suitable cheap metal. B is the stick upon which the body A is supported through the agency of the peculiarly-constructed socket G, which will be explained hereinafter. Pivoted to the body A, at D, is the arm O, which is preferably made bell-crank shaped, as shown in Fig. 1, for the purpose of making the arm O look natural before the explosion of the cap. If desired, this arm may extend beyond the body on either side; but we prefer the construction shown. The hand F is made cup-shaped, for the purpose of affording a support for the cap. That end of the arm 0 having the hand F is (No model.)
longer and heavier than the other, and consequently the arm always returns to the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings by gravity. The smaller or shoulder end of the arm 0 is supplied with a hole, 0, through which the cord E is attached, or other equivalent device. The body A is furnished with a stop, a, against which the shoulder part of the arm (J rests when the hand F is down. as shown; or, if desired, the stop may be dispensed with and the hand allowed to rest upon the legs. The arm 0 is pivoted in such a position with respect to the mouth or nose of the monkey that when the arm is projected up the nose enters the cup-shaped hand, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1.
The operation of the toy is as follows: The stick Band body A being held upright, the arm 0 will be in the position shown in Fig. 1. A fulminating paper cap is now placed in the cup-shaped hand F, and then the cord E is pulled, oscillating the arm, and forcing the hand up and against the mouth and nose of the monkey, thereby exploding the cap with a loud report. Upon letting go of the cord E the force of gravity comes into play, and the arm 0 returns to its original position, and is ready once more for another explosion.
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a toy fulminating-cap exploder, the combination of the body of an animal, A, pivoted arm 0, provided with a cup-shaped hand, I, for the purpose of holding the cap, and operating-cord E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a toy fulminating-cap exploder consisting ofa body, A, in combination with a pivoted arm, 0, cord E, or its equivalent, and a supportingstick, B, attached to the body, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
