(ci. o- 29) 6 Claims.
This invention relates to a ladys handbag.
An object of this invention is to provide a ladys handbag provided with an inner compartment `which closes when thefhandbag is closed and whichn opens up-when the handbag is opened up. Withfsuch construction, varticles such as trinkets and the like Vmay be placed in said compartment and they will not mix with other articles placed in the handbag, and even if the handbag were turned over in closed condition, the articles would stay 'in the compartment.
A further object of this invention is to provide a strong and durable handbag of the character described which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate and yet practical and eflicient to a high degree in use. I
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
'Ihe invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and or whichv the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which is shown various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention, I f
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a handbag embodying the invention with parts broken away and in cross-section;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1;
Fig.` 3 is a View similar to Fig. 2 but showing the handbag opened up;
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is an end view of the handbag closed up;
Fig. 6 is a partial enlarged cross-sectional view taken on line 6 6 of Fig. 4; and` Fig. 7 is a partial end View taken on line 'I-l of Fig. 4.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, I0 designates a handbag embodying the invention. The same comprises a usual frame l2 comprising a pair of jaws I3 hinged together as at I5. Each of the jaws comprises a top portion I6 and side `portions I1. The lower ends of the side portions are connected by the hinge I5. Attached to the frame I2 is a exible bag body I9 of any suitable construction.
Within the bag is an inner compartment 20. The same comprises a pair of rigid parallel side frame members 2 I interconnected by flexible body 22. 'I'he longitudinal mid-portion of the body 22 maybe stitched to the longitudinal bottom of body I 9 as by stitching 24. I f The inner compartment further comprises flex- 'ible end walls 26'and may also be provided with transverse flexible partitions 21.
Means isprovided to suspend the inner compartmentL 20 from .the frame and to open up said inner compartment when the bag is opened up and to close said inner compartment whenthe bagis closed. To this end there is'fixed to each of the side walls I1 of the jaws I3 a spring 30. Each spring 30 has an upper end portion 3l either embedded in or otherwise attached to frame portion I1 in any suitable manner.
Extending from portion 3| of each spring is a portion32 which extends downwardly and 'to- Wards the opposite side of the bag. Thus the springs 30 which are Vattached to the frame jaw I3 on the right side of the bag have downwardly and outwardly extending portions 32 projecting toward the left side of the bag. The lower ends of portions 32 of the springs are hinged to pintles or hinge members 33 attached to the ends of frame portions 2l of the inner compartment. Thus each jaw of the frame I2 is connected to a frame 2| on the opposite side of the inner compartment.
The side frame members 2I are interconnected by interpivoted links as will appear hereinafter. Thus there is attached to the outer side of each side member 2| a hinge 40 carrying a hinge pin 4I. There are a pair of hinge members 40 on each frame member 2l andthe pairs of hinge plates 40 are aligned, Each pair of pivot pins 4I are interconnected by interpivoted links 42. The
'links 42 thus serve to keep the frame members aligned so that they will open and close smoothly.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In combination, a handbag comprising a frame having interpivoted jaws and a bag body attached to the frame, an inner compartment comprising a pair of parallel side members interconnected by a flexible body, a pair of springs at..
will separate said side members to open said inner compartment, and whereby closing movement of said jaws will bring said side members together to also close the inner compartment.
2. In combination, a handbag comprising a frame having interpivoted jaws and a bag body attached to the frame, an inner compartment comprising a pair of parallel side members interconnected by a exible body, a pair of springs attached to each jaw, means to connect the springs of one jaw to the side member of the inner compartment on the opposite side of said inner com-v partment whereby opening movementl of said jaws will separate said side members to open said inner compartment, whereby closing movement of said jaws will bring said-side members together to also close the inner compartment, and a pair of interpivoted links hinged to' said side members.
3. In combinationJ a handbag comprising a frame having interpivoted jaws and a bag body attached to the frame, an inner compartment comprising a pair of parallel side members interconnected by a flexible body, a pair of springs attached to each jaw, means to connect the springs of one jaw to the side member of the inner compartment on the opposite side of said inner compartment whereby opening movement of said jaws will separate said side members to open said inner compartmentJ whereby closing movement of said jaws will bring said `side members together to also close the innervcompartm'ent, and a pair of interpivoted links hinged to said side members, the body of said inner compartment beingattached to the body of said handbag.
tached to saidframe, an inner compartment within said bag comprising a pair of parallel side members extending longitudinally of the bag, a
f flexible body interconnecting said side members,
a pair of springs having armsxed to each jaw,
I portions extending toward an opposite side of the bag and yhinged to a side member at said opposite side of the bag, and the bottom of the body of the inner compartment being Astitched tothe bottom of the bodyy of the handbag. i
6.. A ladys handbag comprising a frame having a pair of interpivoted jaws, a exible bodyattached to said frame, an inner compartment within said bag comprising a pair of parallel side members extending longitudinally of the bag, a flexible body `interconnecting said side members,` a pair of springs having arms iixed to each jaw, portions extending toward an opposite side .of the bag and hinged to a side member at said opposite side of the bag, the bottom of the body ofthe .inner compartment being stitched to the bottom of the body of the handbag, a pair of interpivoted members, and means .to hinge said interpivoted members to said side members.
