4 claims. (c1. 179-146) This invention relates to so-called backboard supports of the `type used, for example, for
mounting coin collector apparatus to the walls r of telephone booths and the like. c
. The object of `this invention is the provision of a support of the type above referred to which,
with the` exception of screws, completely avoids the use of metallic material while being simple in construction, cheap to` manufacture, light in weight and of great rigidity.
According to the support of this invention a rectangularly shaped plywood plate is reenforced along its length by a rib element, secured at a number of points by screws andglue to the plate.
Means in the form of triangularly `shaped blocks secured atthe opposite ends of the plate and to the ends of the reenforcing element form, in cooperation with longitudinally chamfered `edges of the plate, bearing points or surfaces against the adjacent edges of two intersecting walls of a booth upon the tightening eect of means extending through recesses and apertures in the plate for engaging registering securing means carried by the walls of the booth. .c Means in the form of anged nuts riveted to the plywood plate serve for receiving means securing the telephone apparatus to the plate, while means formed in one of the blocks cooperates with means formed in the plywoodplate to serveas guide-ways for the incoming wires connecting with the telephoneapparatus onthe backboard support.
c these walls.l
two intersecting telephone boothwalls as bw and bwl shown in'dotted lines in Fig. 3. A wooden `reenforcing rib element I3 of rectangular cross- Y `section is integrated or secured to the rear side `of the plywood plate I0 by gluing and screws I4,
I5, `I6 and I1, shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, while the ends of the reenforcing `rib element are secured to the triangular wooden blocks Il and I2 at the ends of plate IU as by gluing.
The plywood plate I0 along its length is provided `with a row of parallelly disposed V-shaped recesses rl, r2, 1'3, best seen in Figs. 1, 2 and 3,
having similar sides disposed in line parallel to l the chamfered edgewW of the plateand a row of V-shaped recesses r4, 15 and r6 having similar` sides disposed in parallel relation to the edge WI of plate I0. These recesses are provided for receiving the nuts of bolts as I8 extending through holes LS in the plywood plate I0 and booth walls bw and bwl for securing the plate I0 iirmly to The plywood plate I0 is provided with pairs of `countersunk holes CI-CI, C2-C2, C3-C3 and Cll-C4` along its length for receiving similar flanged nutsfn having eyelet` portions ey and l prongs P, shown in Figs.` 1, 2 and 3, anchored in Other novel features and advantages `of Ithe l invention will appear from the following description and by the claims appended thereto, reference being had to the accompanying `drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is 4a front elevation view;
Fig. 2 is a right side view of Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 1 showing the backboard support secured l to the' walls of a telephone booth, the walls being shown diagrammatically;
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view` taken on line 4-4 vof Fig. 1; and
shown in perspective. c c
The backboard support lof this invention consists of arectangularly shaped plywood plate IQ constructed of a number of `wooden plies as V, VI, V2, V3, V4 and V5. this plate are fitted and integrated as by gluing and wood screws SC and SCI, triangularly shaped wooden end pieces or blocks II and I2, which, in cooperation with longitudinal chamfered edges W and WI of the plywood plate I0, form bearing points for the plate I0 at the adjacent edges of g. 5 is a rear view of the backboard support the plywood plate, as shown in Fig. 3, :for preventing the turning-movement of the flanged nuts upon `the tightening of respectively, associated screws, not shown, `serving for securing the telephone apparatus to the support.` c
The plywood plate ID is at its front side provided with a recess 2 I ,best seen in Figs. `1, 4 and 5, leading into an opening 224 forming a guide for the line wires, not shown, connecting with the telephone apparatus on the support I0 with provision in the triangular wooden block II of a semicircular groove 23 forming, in cooperation with the walls bw and bwl, a second guide-way 40 for the 'incoming telephone line wire.
The coin-collector telephone support of the invention, while completely avoiding the `use of metallic material, has been found in actual tests to provide adequate rigidity to prevent forcible removal of the coin collector from the` walls of the telephone booth to which it may beattached while being lighterin weight and cheaper to l manufacture than the metal backboard now used.
To the opposite ends of l It is understood that minor" changes may be` l made to the backboard support of this invention` as to form and dimension without departing from the scope of theappended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A coin collector support for use in a telephone booth, said support comprising `a plate, a
. reenforcing element for said plate disposed. at
right angles thereto, and end pieces disposed at right angles to said element and to said plate, said end pieces having portions secured to said plate and to said reinforcing element and serving as bearing points for said support.
`2. A Wooden support for a coin collector in a telephone booth, said support comprising a ply- Wood rectangularly shaped plate having chamfered edge portions along its length, a reenforcing element secured to one side of saidy plate, angular Wooden blocks secured to said reenforcing element and to said plate at the `ends thereof and cooperating With the chamfered edge portions of said plate to serve as bearing points therefor. v
3. A Wooden support for a coin collector in a telephone booth, said support comprising a Wooden plate, a Wooden element secured to one Y side of said plate for reenforcing the latter longitudinally, Wooden angle pieces secured to said plate and to said wooden element to form a unit assembly, means formed in said plate for securing the latter to two adjacent Walls of the booth and means carried by said plate vfor re ceiving means for securing the coin collector tol said support.
4. A support for a coin collector in a telephone booth, said support comprising a wooden plate, a
and at the ends of said reenforcing element, and
means in said plate and one of .said elementsserving as guide-Ways for the incoming Wires connecting to the telephone coin collector secured to said support.
