"R. P. WILLIAMS.. Wagon Bow Socket- No. 236,133, Patented De c. 28,1880.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFic.
RICHARD P. WILLIAMS, OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS.
WAGON-BOW SOCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 236,133, dated December 28, 1880.
Application filed July 7, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RICHARD P. WILLIAMS, of Stephenville, Erath county, Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wagon-Bow Sockets, of which the following is a specification.
The nature and object of my invention consist in providing a wagon-bow staple with v an auxiliary part for the reception and support of the bottom end of the bow below the staple part proper, whereby I prevent the bows from going too far through the staples, and at the same time securely hold them from swaying in any direction.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a wagon-body with my invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion of the same.
I make my bow-sockets by cutting from sheet metal a strip with a cross at one end and T shape at the other, which latter is bent into -the form of a staple, a, as shown in the draw- (ModeL) other fastening passes to secure it to the wagon-body, as also are secured the other ears, as clearly shown in the drawings.
My bow-socket may also be made of inalleable cast-iron.
The upper staple, a, may or may not be used in connection with my improved bowsocket.
My bow-socket furnishes a firm support for the bow at both top and bottom of the socket, by which it is evident it will be rigidly secured against all lateral motions, while the crosspieces under thebottom of the bows prevent each bow from sliding lower than the others. This prevents the unsightly appearance, leaking, and other defects of the uneven height of bows so often resulting from the use of ordinary staples.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the staple a, of the connecting-bar I), having the crossbottom, with the lugs 0 c and ear 6, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
RICHARD P. \VILLlAMS.
