1 Claim.
'Ihis invention relates to new and useful improvements in wrist watches and more particularly to a wrist watch strap retaining lug, the principal object being to provide a lug of a certain length to cover the greatest length necessary for such a device and to so form the deviceas to permit the same to be sheared off to the desired length in an easy and convenient manner preparatory to installation.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawing- Figure 1 represents a fragmentary detailed sectional view showing the lug in use.
Figure 2 is a, longitudinal sectional view of a The improved lug consists of a cylindrical body I4 slidably disposed in the barrel I0 and having a reduced portion I5 Which slides through the opening in the adjacent end of the barrel I0. From the reduced portion I5 projects an elongated pin I6 having at regularly spaced intervals collars I 1. The pin` I6 is made of a material which can be easily snapped or sheared off and this is done immediately under any one of the collars I'I in order tocut the lugs down to the desired size for use in conjunction with a watch of a specific width.
lug and barrel apart from its use with a Watch v case.
Figure 3 is a side elevational View of the lug.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes a wrist watch case having arms .6 projecting from the ends thereof. Numeral 1 denotes a wrist watch band which has a loop 8 at one end thereof for disposition over holding means generally referred to by numeral 9. The holding means 9 customarily consists of a barrel Ill having a pin II projecting from one end and containing a spring I2 urging a lug through the other end of the barrel and into a recess or opening in the corresponding arm Ii of the watch case 5.
However, in carrying out the present invention a special form of lug is employed and this lug is generally referred to by numeral I3.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specic terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:
A wrist watch strap holder comprising a barrel, a spring in the barrel, a lug extending through one end of the barrel and urged outwardly by the spring for projection into an apertured arm on the watch, said lug consisting of a portion slidable in the barrel and a pin projecting from the slide portion and externally of the barrel and adapted to be easily sheared off at any one of a plurality of definitely spaced intervals, said pin being provided with stop collars at said intervals for limiting play of the pin in said arm under the urge of the spring.
invention, what is WILLIAM I-I. MAXWELL.
