Application July 14, 1943, Serial No. 494,679
2 Claims.
The invention relates to a curtain rod and more particularly to a double hanger type of curtain rod.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a rod of this character wherein the same can be securely fastened to a door or window frame, the fastening thereof being had in a novel manner, so that curtains can be hung therefrom, the said rod being susceptible of adjustment to accommodate it to different sizes of window or door frames or other place of hanging thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a rod of this character wherein the attaching means for the rod proper enables the firm and easy securing thereof in place and also is effective for the application and removal of curtains in a convenient manner.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a rod of this character which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, strong, durable, readily and easily applied and removedand inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as Will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view partly broken away of the curtain rod constructed in accordance with the invention and in an ap-plied position.
Figure 2 is a front view thereof showing by full lines the set position of the rod and by dotted lines adjustment thereof.
Figure 3 is a front view of the fastening medium for the rod.
Figure 4 is an elevation of one of the hanger members of the rod.
Figure 5 is a front View of a modified form of fastener. i
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 6 5 of Figure 5, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure '7 is a side elevation of another modification of fastening medium for the rod.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a portion of a window or door curtain rod constituting the present invention and hereinafter fully described.
The curtain rod preferably consists of a pair of lug members IIJ, these being formed With internally threaded sockets II each opening through one end thereof and a screw hole I2 aligned with said socket. The screw hole I2 receives a wood screw I3 which fastens the lug member I U securely to the window or door frame A as disclosed in Figure 1 of the drawing.
Adapted for threaded engagement in the lug members I I) are the threaded terminals I4 of substantially I -shaped brackets or arms I5, these being disposed opposite each other and slidably engageable upon such brackets or arms I5 is a tubular sleeve I6 which with the brackets constitutes the hanger for a curtain or curtains and also a single rod.
In the ap-plication of the brackets or arms I5 the sleeve I6 is moved to disengaging position on one of the same and thereafter both of these brackets or arms I5 are screwed into the lug members I0, and when the same are brought to have their end portions aligned with each other, the sleeve I6 can be shifted for the interlocking of said brackets or arms I5, as clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.
Adapted to be associated with these brackets or arms I5 and the sleeve I6 heretofore referred to is a second hanger for a curtain or curtains and it includes the brackets or arms I'I, the sleeve I8 and the screw threaded laterally extending eye terminals, these being extensions of the brackets or arms I1. The eye terminals I9 are Ythreaded onto the threaded ends I4 of the brackets or arms I5 prior to the engagement of such ends I4 in the stud members I0. The sleeve I8 is manipulated similarly to the sleeve IB when alignment of the brackets or arms Il is had as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing.
In Figures 5 and 6 of the drawing there is shown a slight modification of a lug member wherein it is in the form of a flat faced head 20 having a central Wood screw shank 2I and such head 20 has a screw threaded socket 22 therein. The flat faced head 2D enables a wrench or other tool to be applied for the fastening of the screw shank 2I in a support.
In Figure '7 of the drawing there is shown a further modification of lug member wherein the head 23 is formed with the screw shank 24 being provided with a blunt end incontradistinction to the pointed end of the screw shank 2I.
By reason of the construction hereinbefore deframe for the application or mounting of the scribed, the rod including both the inside one and outside one as illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing can be readily fixed in place and taken down with ease and also the said rods proper will be prevented from being sprung or bent.
Preferably the sleeves I6 and I8 respectively can be provided with springs 25 and 26 respectively, these Working against the parts I5 and I1 and function to center the said sleeves as should be obvious.
What is claimed is:
1. A curtain rod comprising a pair of lug members, means fastening the lug members to a support, the lug members being provided with threaded sockets, arms, bent at one end and threaded into the sockets, a coupling sleeve .re- V15A leasably telescoped upon said arms, a pair of auxiliary arms having bent ends provided with threaded eye terminals engaged with the rst mentioned arms, and a coupling sleeve releasably telescoped upon the second named arms.
2. A curtain rod comprising a pair of lug members, means for fastening the lug members to a support, the lug members being provided With threaded sockets, a pair of brackets having bent ends threaded into the sockets, a second pair of brackets connected to the bent ends of the brackets of said rst pair, and a coupling sleeve releasably telescoped upon the brackets of eacli pair.
