SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,016, dated November 30, 1880.
Application filed September 9, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL POSEN, of Ofi'enbach-on-the-Main, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clasps for Albums and other Books, of which the following i is a specification.

looped plates A B are secured to the bookcover by rivets or clinched nails, so that the connection may be firm and strong. Upon the end parts of the beud of the plate A are formed two spherical knobs, O, which are slotted longitudinally and at right angles with the length of the plate A, to receive the circular heads D formed upon the ends of the (Model) wire E, and which are pivoted to the said slotted knobs by rivets,,thus forming neat, strong, and durable hinges. The wire E is bent into triangular or V form, and the loop thus formed is passed over a knob, F, formed upon or attached to the center of the bend of the plate B, and rests in the neck of the said knob F.
With this construction the wire loop E gives elasticity to the clasp, so that it can be readily fastened, even should the book to which it is applied be overfilled, and at the same time the clasp Will be firm, strong, and durable in use and light and neat in appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improvement in clasps for albums or other books, the loop-plate A, provided with a slotted knob, and the rim-loop E, having circular heads, pivoted in said slotted knobs and adapted to pass over and rest on a suitable knob or plate, B, all substantially as shown and described.
