CLIP TO FORM THE NEGKTIE KNOT Filed Feb. 10, 1941 A TTO/PNE-Y Patented May 30, 1944 m 2,349,842 I I 1 CLIP TO FORM NECKTIE KNOTS {Ramon Gonzalez Barreto, Habana, Cuba Application February 10,1941, Serial No. 378,290- In Cuba February 14, 1940 3 Claims.
This invention relates to a clip designed to cooperate with a necktie, particularly the four-inhand type, so as to give the appearance of the necktie being tied.
An object of the invention is to provide a de vice whereby the usual folding and twisting in the forming of the necktie into a knot is eliminated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a construction wherein wrinklin of the material of the necktie is eliminated, thereby addin to the life and appearance of the necktie.
A still further object is to provide a construction which is substantially out of sight when being Worn.
With the above and other objects in view which will become apparent from the detailed description below, the invention is shown in the drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the new clip,
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the clip with the tie shown in dotted lines,
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational view of the clip,
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the clip,
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view taken on the section line 5-5 of the Fig. 2,
Fig. 6 is a cross sectional view taken on the sectional line 6-6 of Fig. 3,
Fig. '7 is a perspective view of the clip,
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of one of the elements of the clip, and
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of another element of the clip.
Referring to the drawing in which like reference characters denote like parts, the main element of the clip is formed from a single plate which is bent in the desired manner. This element has a semi-circular portion I located at the rear and a portion 2 located in front thereof, also, of semicircular configuration but having its surface disposed at an angle to the surface of the portion I in the manner shown particularly in Fig. 6 of the drawing. Extending rearwardly from the upper and lower edges of the portion I are the ears 4 in which apertures 5 are provided. The ears 4 are cut out of the same material which constitutes the main element of the clip.
Also, extending rearwardly from the lower edge of the portion I are the flanges 3, 3. These flanges are, also, preferably formed from the same material as the main element.
Positioned in the apertures 5 is a pivot pm 6 shown more particularly in Fig. 6 and pivotally mounted on the pivot 6 are the elements shown in Figs. 8 and 9. These elements are designed to cooperate with the necktie for securing such necktie in the desired position relative to the main element of the clip. As shown in Fig. 8, the binding element is provided with an operating lever B and necktie engaging teeth '9.
This element is, also, provided with ears ID in which the bores I I are provided through which the pivot pin '6 extends.
The element shown in Fig. 9 is similar to the element shown in Fig. 8 and is designed to operate upon the opposite side of the necktie. In Fig. 9,
operating lever is shown at I2 and the retaining teeth at I3. This element is provided with ears I4 having aligned apertures I5 through which the lever 6 extends.
Cooperating with each of the securing elements pivotally mounted on the pivot 6 i a spring I disposed in the manner shown in Fig. 6. One of the ends of the spring 1 tends to urge the binding teeth I3 against the portion I while the other,
end of the spring I cooperates with the other binding element in order to urge the binding teeth 9 against the portion I. By depressing the operating lever 8 or the operating lever l2 against the action of the spring I, the corresponding binding teeth 9 or I3 will be moved away from the portion I so that a necktie may be inserted in between the teeth and the portion I in order to secure such necktie in desired position.
The flanges 3 cooperate with the binding teeth 9 and I3.
Referring to Fig. 5, the dotted lines will clearly indicate the manner in which the necktie is secured by the clip. One fold of the tie is disposed in the portion 2 of the main element with the side edges curved in the manner indicated. The other fold of the tie is disposed so that its side edges extend between the outer surface of the portion I and the teeth 9 and I3. Entry of the side edges of such fold into the position indicated is made by operating the respective levers 8 and I2 so as to counteract the action of the spring 1.
emplary and it is desired to cover all modifications as will fall within the spirit of the following claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A clip forforming a necktie so as to simulate a knot which comprises a main element having a front portion and a rear portion, a pair of projecting ears extending from the lower edge of the rear portion rearwardiy, a pair of spaced lugs on said rear portion, a shaft carried by said lugs and a pair of operating levers pivotally mounted on said shaft and cooperating with said ears for holding a necktie in position.
2. A clip for forming a necktie so as to simulate a knot which comprises a main element having a front portion and a rear portion, a pair of projecting ears extending from the lower edge of' on Said rear portion, a shaft carried by said lugs,
a pair of operating levers pivotaliy mounted on said shaft, a spring mounted upon said shaft urging said levers against said rear portion of said main element whereby the side edges of a four-inhand tie may be secured to the clip.
3. A clip for forming a necktie so as to simulate a knot which comprises a main element having a rear portion and a front portion extending at an angle to said rear portion, said front and rear portion being disposed in substantially semicircular formation, a pair of spaced ears extending rearwardly from said rear portion and a pair of pivoted levers mounted upon said rear portion designed to cooperate with said ears for securthe rear portion rearwardiy, a pair of spaced lugs, 15 m a necktie to Said clip- RAMO'N GONZALEZ BARRETO.
