Description
May 23, 1944. F. L. STARBECK HEADGEAR Filed Oct. 9, 1942 INVENTOR.
BY I ATTD R N EYS Patented May 23, 1944 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention relates to head gear, and has among its objects and advantages the provision of an improved ventilating means.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hat illustrating the invention incorporated therein and opened for ventilating purposes.
Figure 2 is a similar view illustrating the ventilating means closed, and
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure l but illustrating snap fasteners for closing the ventilating flaps in lieu of the slide fasteners of Figures 1 and 2.
In the embodiment of the invention selected for illustration, the hat I comprises a brim l2 and a crown portion M. The crown portion is made up of a plurality of triangular shaped pieces l6 sewed into a unitary structure.
Two of the pieces I6 upon each side of the hat are sewed together short distances downwardly from the apex of the crown. The remaining side margins of the two pieces are connected with the crown proper through the medium of slide fasteners l8. Both flap pieces IS on each side of the crown are detached from the brim l2 throughout the greater part of their width so that the pieces may be folded back upon themselves and detachably secured in opened positions by a snap fastener 20.
Figure 3 illustrates a construction wherein the flap pieces 24 are provided with snap fasteners 28 in lieu of the slide fasteners I8.
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully explain my invention, that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service.
I claim:
1. In a head gear, a crown comprising a plurality of similarly contoured pieces secured together, certain of said pieces being detached one from the other to provide flaps foldable back upon themselves to form openings in the crown, mesh like material spanning the openings, and slide fasteners coacting with said flaps and other pieces in the crown for fastening the flaps to the crown and close the openings.
2. In a head gear, a crown, a brim attached to the bottom edge of the crown, said crown having a slit extending from the brim to a point short of the top point of the crown, that portion of the crown at one side of the slit forming a flap foldable outwardly to provide an opening having a diminishing taper from the brim, an open mesh section secured to the crown so as to cover said opening, and means for fastening the fiap in opening covering and in outwardly folded positions.
FRANK L. STARBECK.
