Application November 21, 1942, Serial No. 466,435
2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in neck scarfs for use more particularly by workmen, mechanics and the like, the principal object in view being to provide an inexpensive, easily made neck scarf of the handkerchief t p eq ipped for quick and eaw fastening around the neck so as to lie smoothly, and which may be worn loosely or tight around the neck, as desired.
Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, together with the precise nature of my improvements, will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claims are read with reference to the drawings accompanyin and forming part of this specification.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating my improved scarf fastened around the neck of a wearer,
Figure 2 is a view of the condition and looking at the zipper fastener side thereof,
Figure 8 is a view in side elevation illustrating the scarf folded and spread out preparatory to folding the same around the neck,
Figure 4 is a view in front elevation illustrating the manner in which the scarf is folded when worn, and
Figure 5 is a detail view in transverse section taken on the line kt of Figure 1 and drawn to an enlarged scale.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, my improved scarf comprises a square body I of fabric, such as a heavy large handkerchief, hemmed. if desired, as at 2, along edges thereof.
Opposed to one and the same side of the body I is a pair of tapes 3 sewed, as at l. to the body i to extend inwardly along said side thereof for a suitable distance f om d agonally opposite corners B of the bodv, in longitudinal alignment. and having inner ends spaced apart in accordance with the desired neck size intended for the A pair of complemental Zipper slide fasteners I, of the usual ty e of commerce, are embodied in side edges of the tapes 3. respectively, on one and the same side of the longitudinal center of said ta es. one of said fasteners l carryin the usual locking slide 1 for progressively connecting the fasteners together from the outer ends thereof, the slide fasteners 6 and locking slide 1 bein of the ime quipp d with the usual coupling 8 for detachabl connecting the outer ends of said scarf in spread-out fasteners together to align the fasteners prior to operating the locking slide 1 to connect the same.
As will be seen, if the described scarf is gripped by the two hands at the outer ends of the tapes 3, or slide fasteners 6, and with said tapes and fasteners disconnected and uncoupled, is held substantially horizontally, the body i may be caused to fold cornerwise along a line parallel with said tapes 3 and fasteners G to provide a triangular double thickness scarf with the tapes 3 and slide fasteners 6 on one side of the scarf. Thus folded, the scarf may be folded around the neck and over the shoulders of a wearer with the tapes 3 and slide fasteners 8 on the inside and said fasteners 6 may then be coupled together and connected to hang down in front on the chest with the tapes 3 hidden from view. Thus, the scarf may be quickly put on and securely held fastened so as to present a neat appearance; By adjusting the locking slide 1, as desired, along the slide fasteners 8, the scarf may be completely or partially fastened according to the desires and custom of the wearer.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A neck scarf comprising a rectangular body of fabric material, a pair of tapes extending along one and the same side of said body inwardly from diagonally opposite comers thereof and in longitudinal alignment, and means to fasten said tapes together comprising a pair of complemental slide fastener extending along side edges of said tapes, respectively, on one and the same side of the longitudinal center of said tapes.
2. A neck scarf comprising a rectangular body of fabric material, a pair of tapes extending along one and the same side of said body inwardly from diagonally opposite corners thereof accordance with a neck size to establish the neck size of the scarf.
EDWARD O. HERBRANBON.
