UNITED STATES PAUL BEDEAU, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CENTER-PIECE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,595, dated October 26, 1880.
Application filed March 3, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL BEDEAU, of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a new Improvement in Ornamental Center-Pieces for Oeilin gs of Rooms, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide center-pieces with fastening attachments, so that they can be put in place by an unskilled person, and may be removed without sustaining the slightest damage.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents an ornamental center-piece, B, through the perforated center of which passes the gaspipe or a rod of any material. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the fastening device through center line, 0 P, of Fig. 3, the latter being a horizontal section through line M N of Fig. 2.
-Fig. 4 is an elevation of fastening device.
Similar letters indicate in the different tigures similar parts.
To the perforated center of an ornamental center-piece I fasten a device constructed in such a manner that by means of screws or wedges, or both, it can be firmly clamped to a gas-pipe or any rod fixed in the ceiling receiving the ornament, so that any person of ordinary intelligence isfthereby enabled to securely fix it to its place.
Among a number of devices which may be employed for this purpose I give the preference to the one represented in the aforesaid drawings, in which G represents the gas-pipe or rod fastened to the ceiling. G is a socket, one extremity of which is securely fastened to center-piece B, while the other extremity is provided on its inner circumference with a screw-thread for the reception of the hollow screw or nut D. The inside surface of the latter, Fig. 2, in advancing presses the wedges E through their inclined planes against the gas-pipe or rod, and thus clamps the ornament securely in its place. The wedges E are provided with strips, connecting them to the socket C in such a manner that by turning D they can only move from or toward the gas-pipe or red projectin g from the ceiling.
I claim as my invention 1. An ornamental center-piece of plaster, cartonierre, or other material, combined with a central clamping or fastening device consisting of a wedge or wedges and a clamping-nut permanently connected to it, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with a center-piece and a rod or pipe, the clamping device consisting in the combination of socket O, screw or nut D, and wedges E, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
PAUL BEDEAU.
