UNITE-D STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR LE ROY ANDREWS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAINTERS' PALETTES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,522, dated July 2, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Painters Palettes, invented by OSCAR LE RoY ANDREWS, of Boston, in the 7 county of Sufl'olk and State of Massachusetts.
This invention relates to palettes for holding paints, brushes, &c., which may be attached to any suitable fixture for facilitating the operation of painting or lettering on signs,
windows, &c.; and it consists in adjustable jaws and adjusting-screws, in combination v tom view of thesame.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the palette, which may be either wood or metal and of the ordinary form and size. B is a socket-plate, attached by means of screws to the under side of the palette, with a setscrew, C, therein. D is a jaw, the shank of which passes through the socket and supports the two adj usting-screws E and F, upon which screws in a movable jaw, H. The screws pass through this jaw H and engage with screwthreads therein. One or both of the screws is secured in the jaw D, so that when the screws are turned the jaw H will be carried toward or from the other jaw, which allows the palette to be clamped to the sill of a window or any convenient fixture, as seen in Fig. 1. The jaw D has a round shank, so that the clamping-jaws and screws may be turned in any direction to suit the fixture.
This palette may be used without the clamping-jaws, if desired, like the ordinary painters palette, but it is designed more especially for sign and ornamental painters.
When the jaws are clamped to any fixture the palette is held in position by the setscrew C. I
Variations may be made in the form of the clamps and screws and manner of attaching them to the palette, and the palette may be used for other purposes without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination with a painters palette,
the socket B, set-screw C, jaws D'and H, and
screws E F, or their equivalents, when arranged substantially as and for the purposes described. 2. I claim, also, a painters palette with a supporting apparatus attached thereto, substantially as shown and described.
OSCAR LE ROY ANDREWS.
