3 clams. A(C1. 24a-55.5) 'f invention relates to paper roll appliances and more specifically toa toiletpaper roll attachment for built-in fixtures for facilitatingthe tearing off of a length ofvpaper and for guidingA the paper as it is pulled fromY the roll. v
In the conventionalrecessed built-in toilet paper roll fixture, the free end of the paperisf often inaccessible for pulling upon which requires manual turningof the roll to expose the same for grasping. Inladdition to the aforementioned annoyance, the paper may bexun'evenly torn4 intermediate the perforations which divide thesame into`sheets and which leaves the free endof the roll in an unsightly condition. It is therefore 'the primary object of the invention to provide a paper roll attachment which will eliminate the above referred to conditions.`
v"Another feature of the invention resides in, an attachment for facilitating the guiding 'and tearing away of a length of toilet paper from a roll, and which may be installed upon built-in toilet paper roll fixtures without any alterations thereto.
Other features of the invention are to provide a combined toilet paper roll guide and cutter Which is easily installed; which may be made in different colors to match the paper roll fixture or tile so as not to be conspicuous and detract from the appearance of the toilet room in which it is installed; and which is simple and inexpensive of construction.
Other features of construction will become apparent as the following specification is read in commotion with the accompanying drawing, in
which: f
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the combined toilet paper roll guide and cutter per se, the paper roll holder being shown in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View through a recessed built-in toilet paper roll fixture with the roll guide and cutter attachment associated therewith, the roll holder being shown in full lines and the roll of paper in dotted lines.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail side elevational View of a modified form of roller receiving slot.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, the numeral I designates the toilet roll attachment in its entirety which may be constructed of metal, but preferably of a plastic so that it may be made in different colors without any additional painting operation. The attachment l0 is substantially frame shape and includes a pair of opposed angularly bent end memb'ers'orlegslr and l2, having axially alined openg.f ingsl4 and l5' respectively. A j Formed integral with the Vupper endsof the arms l Iand l2are1ike forwardly extending arcuate'extensionslS-KIS which are connected by a,y cutter bar 2U which is provided' withserration's or pointed teethZl. Disposed beneath the bar` 2lil in spaced rrelationthereto is a paper guide plate 22 having its front edge disposeda 'sub' stantial distance inwardly of the plane' of the' serrated cutting edge I2l, the`1 ends of the plate 22 being integral wither fixedly `connected to" the extensions. ifi-I9.` vThe front edge of the" plate 20 is cut away as at y23 to facilitate the4 reaching under the bar `20 to grasp the free endly of the paper when it is desired to pull a length. of paper from` the roll inamanner to beherein-fafter more specifically described. A
The top andl bottom portions of the legs H' 'and i2 have substantially V-shaped alined notches 24 extending inwardly from their rear edges, While the lower portions of said legs. are` provided with similar notches 25. The notches 24 and 25l respectively engage the upper and lower exterior corners of a recessed built-in toiletpaper roll'xture A whenthe attachment is in use as set forth in Figure 2.
The space between the legs Il and I2 is slightwhich the free end B of the roll of paper R is e threaded.
In practice, the roll holder rII with the roll of paper R thereon is inserted between the legs Il and l2 and the trunnions I6.-I6' inserted through the alined openings I4 and I5, it being understood that the roll holder I1 is provided with a spring actuated plunger trunnion which is pushed inwardly to a retracted position. After the attachment l0 is connected to the roll holder II and roll of paper R, the same is inserted into the recess of the fixture A so that the top and bottom of the angular legs extend in a forward direction. When the trunnions I6--l6 engage their bearing seats in the opposed side walls of the recessed fixture A, the notches ,24 and 25 respectively engage and receive the top and bottom corner edges of the recess. Thus, as the roll of paper is rotated to provide a length of paper to be torn free, the attachment I0 remains sta- I tionary.r The free endA B of the roll of paper passes through the guide space 26 and rests upon the plate 22. To receive a length of paper from with the upper ends of the end members, a cutter member connected to and bridging the space between said extension portions and having a `front cutting edge, and a guide member conand tearing oif lengths of paper from the rolll The free end of the paper cogealedguntilhet. operator reaches under thefgont-oi; the;` 'v
grasps the same and pulls outwardly thereonl In Figure 4 of the drawing, I have illustrate.d
nected to and bridging the space between the extension portions and disposed beneath and in relatively close spaced relation to said cutter member, the space between said cutter member apdxauidefmember oonsiimins a euidefpesseee for-the` free end of a rollsof toilet paper when the device is in use.
