i claims; (o1. 22a-+27) Y v'uN-Vree STATES pTNTpFFIC-'E- This invention relates to improvements sin.
cigarette containers of the dispensing slide type;` Y
the objectbeingito provide improved means for dividing the dispensing slide into arplurality, of compartments dimensioned to ensure that the cigarettes placed therein will always be maintained in a substantially upright position, .that is to say, will .be prevented from toppling over to a position where they are diicult to remove and are apt to become damaged.
The conventional cigarette container of the dispensing slide type provides a single cigarette receiving compartment which is so dimensioned that, after a certain number of cigarettes have been removed from the compartment, the remaining cigarettes are free to topple over toan inclined position such that they are difficult to remove and are subject to damage. This condition obtains regardless of whether the cigarettes are arranged in the `compartment in the form of separately wrapped bundles or are merely packed in said compartment without any wrapping whatsoever. As previously stated the present invention eliminates this difficulty by sub-dividing the dispensing slide into a plurality of smaller compartments, in which even a single cigarette will be retained in a substantially upright position.
Proceeding now to a more detailed description reference will be had to the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view dispensing slide.
Figure 2 is aperspective view showing the slide as it appears just prior to being inserted in the outer case.
Figure 3 is a sectional viewalong the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. l but showing a siight modification.
Except as hereinafter specied, the container shown in the present drawing is of a known type comprising an outer case 5 and a dispensing slide 6, the latter presenting a rear wall 1, a front vwall 8, side walls 9, a bottom wall lil, and a top .wall II, the latter wall being provided with a depending ap extension I2.
` According to the present invention the rear wall 'i of the dispensing slide is stamped to provide a panel I4 adapted to be bent inwardly along the vertical crease line I5. The front wall 8 is stamped to provide a slot or recess I6 extending substantially from the bottom edge to of my improved the upper edge, said slot being opposite the creaseline I5 andadapted to receive therein the frontf edge portion of the panelr I4. The width of the panel `Ille-fromthe hinge I5 to its front edge isf slightlyjgreater than therdepth of the dispensing f slide sothatV when" the vpanel is swung onthe hinge totav verticalposition, itwi1llbe held =inl place by the side wallsfof the slot or recess* I6.
As. shown in Figs.; A2 Aand`v3,` the y panel VI 4 en'- gaged vin' .the slot I llserves"V Vas a parti`tion=-lwall r between the ybundles of cigarettes I'I and I8, and; serves tokeep the cigarettes of one bundle from' shifting laterally when the cigarettes in the other bundle have been removed. Instead of being provided'with the slot I6, the front wall of the dispensing slide may be provided with a groove or recess Ilia to receive the front edge of thel panel I4.
In the drawing I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention to be a single panel or partition wall located in the center of the slide. It is to be understood, however, that two or more panels suitably spaced apart, vdepending on the width of the container, is within thescope of my invention. Y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A cigarette container comprising a rectangular outer case open at top and bottom and a one piece rectangular dispensing slide of the folded blank type arranged in said case so as to be a close sliding fit therein, said slide comprising ya rear wall, side walls hinged to the side edges of the rear wall, a top wall hinged to the. upper edges of the rear wall, `a bottom wall having its rear edge hinged to the lower edge ofthe rear wall and being free of attachment to the side walls, a frontwall hinged to .the front edge of the bottom wall and a vertical partition member attached kto said rear wall andl extending forwardly therefrom into a vertical slot provided in said front `wall whereby said partition member is held against lateral displacement, said outer case serving to hold the front and rear walls of the slide against relative outward movement to thereby prevent accidental withdrawal of. said partition from said slot.
2. A cigarette container comprising a rectangular outer case open at top and bottom and a `one piece rectangular dispensing slide of the folded blank type arranged in said case so as to.
be a close slidingfttherein, said slide comprising its rear edge hinged to the lower edge of the rear wall and being free of attachment to the side walls, a front wall hinged to the front edge of the bottom wall and a vertical partition member attached .to said rear wall and extending forwardly therefrom into a vertical groove provided in the rear surface of the front Wall Whereby said partition member is held .against .lateral displacementxsaid outer ease serving to prevent relative outward movement of the front and rear Walls of the slide and to thereby prevent accidental Withdrawal of the partition from said groove.
3. A cigarette container comprising a rectangular outer case open at top and bottom and a one piece rectangular dispensing-- .slide of the folded blank type arranged in said case so as to be a close sliding t therein, ksaid slide comprising a rear wall, side walls hinged to the side edges of the rear wall, a top wall hinged to the upper 'edge of the rear wail, a bottom -wail having its rear .edge hinged to the lower edge of the rear wall, a. :front Wall hinged tothe front edge of the bottom wail, a vertical partition attached to the rear wail and extending iorwardly therefrom, said front wall being provided with whereby interttng engagement is established between said front Wall and the front edge of said partition to hold the latter against latera movement: said outer case serving to hold the front and rear walls of the slide against relative outward movement and to thereby prevent said partition being accidentally withdrawn from its intertting engagement with said front wall.
4. A cigarette container comprising a. rectangular casing open at top and bottom and a one piece rectangular dispensing vslide `of 4the folded blank type arranged in said casing so as to be a close sliding t therein, said slide comprising a rear wally side walls hinged to the side edges of the rear wall, a top wall hinged tothe upper edge of the rear wall, a bottom wall having its rear edge hinged to the lower edge of the rear wall, a front wall hinged to the front edge of the bottom wall, :a vertically extending partition attached to and extending forwardly from the rear wall at right angles thereto, the width of said partition, as measured between its front and rear edges, being slightly greater than the width of said bottom Wall and said frontv wall being provided with .a slot Vin which the front edge portion or the partition is fitted, said slideserving to prevent relative outward movement Aof the front and rear walls of the side to thereby prevent 'accidentai withdrawal of the partition from said slot due to such movement.
