Thi invention relates to a retainingv device designed for retaining bed clothes in place on a bed, in such a manner that it will be practically impossible for a small child by kicking and tossing, to uncover itself.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily secured in position, and one which may be adjusted quickly, to permit a child to be removed or replaced in the bed, with facility.
A further object of the invention is to provide a harness which will flex or move under a pull or strain directed thereto, thereby protecting the bed clothes connected with the harness, against damage.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure l is a plan View illustrating the harness as positioned over the mattress of a bed, and secured to the covers of the bed, one edge of the cover being turned back to illustrate the harness.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating one section of the harness.
Figure 4 is a perspective view illustrating one section of the harness used at the foot of the bed.
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating a modified form of harness used at the head of the bed.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention and illustrating the section used at the foot of the bed.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates the main supporting strap used at the head end of the mattress. The strap 5 is constructed of elastic material and is provided with elongated eye members 6 at its ends.
The main supporting strap also includes an elastic section 7 formed with heads 8 at its ends to be engaged within the elongated eye members ES, securing the main supporting strap in position around the mattress.
Heads Q are provided on the section I and are engaged by the elongated eye members iii secured at the ends of the straps ll. These straps H are also constructed of elastic material and are secured to the main strap section 5 at a lengths to extend over the end'of the .inattress and hook to the-.*bed; clothes, which are used-in making the bed. 7
On the free ends of the straps 14, are heads l5 that extend into' the elongated eye members l6 secured at the free ends of the outer straps II, that are also secured to the" straps !2, at the ends thereof. .The sheet, which is positioned between the straps l1 and i4, is gripped between the heads and eye members of the separable fasteners, to secure the bed clothes against be- 7 ing pulled upwardly from the foot of the bed.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figures 5 and 6 of the drawings, the bed clothes securing straps are supplied with straps which may be tied around the bed post or the rungs of a crib, in order to secure them in position.
As shown by Figure 5, a securing strap is indicated by the reference character 18. This strap i8 is connected to the tie strap i9 at a point intermediate the ends of the tie strap H9. The elongated eye member indicated at 28 carried by the free end of the strap i8, is adapted to fit over the headed section 2! of the fastener, the headed section 2i being carried by the strap 22. This strap 22 is also flexible, and extends throughout the length of the bed, with which the. harness is used. The reference character 23 designates the tie strap to which one end of the strap 22 is connected, the tie strap 23 being provided so that it may be tied to the bed, in any desired manner.
In the form as shown by Figure 6, the longitudinal'strap indicated at 24, is of the flexible type and is provided with straps 25 and 2B, which are connected to the strap 24. The strap 25 carries the headed portion 21 of the fastener, While the strap 26, carries the elongated eye member 28 that cooperates with the, headed portion 21 of the fastener in gripping a portion of the bed clothing therebetween. In this form of the in-' vention, it is. contemplated to extend the strap under the mattress, so that the straps 25 and 28 may be brought upwardly over the sideedge of the mattress, to engage the bed clothing positioned thereon. As shown byFigure 4 of the drawings, the ends of the straps l4 and I! are ing devices 29..
. What is claimed is:
1. Means for securing bed clothes to a mattress, embodying a strap adapted to be secured to the underside of amattress and being disposed transversely of the mattress, pairs of straps secured to the first mentioned strap, said straps of 7 each pair overlying each other and being of equal e he pai s of straps adapted to extend over one end of a mattress, fasteners on the ends of the straps of each pair adapted to be fastened to the bed clothes, positioned between the straps of each pair holding the bed clothes to the mattress.
2. Means for securing bed clothes to a mat tress, embodying a harness comprising a transverse strap adapted to be secured to the mattress at a point adjacent to one end of the mattress, pairsof elastic end straps secured to the transverse strap at one of their respective, ends, at a point under the mattress, the loose ends of the straps adapted to extend upwardlyover the end of the mattress, fasteners on the transverse strap, fasteners on the free ends of the pairs of straps and adapted to cooperate with the fasteners on the'transverse strap in securing bed clothes extended between the straps of each pair, to the harness, and fastening means at the ends of the transverse strap adapted to hold the transverse strap to the mattress.
