A'Vtip structure is threaded into the forwar end" of the nipple [4' of the: nozzle structural!) shown inFigure'ln The up structure 39: includes an outericylind rical member- 40 which has awa terjacketll on the forward end portion thereof; 'I'h'ejacket 4T similar in every detail to. the jacket 25, being provided with alplurality of. forwardl'y andmwardly mcnnee j'et openings 42 for discharging a conical column ofwa-ter forwardly Of the" tip'. 7 l
"An inner tip'memberTM is disposed withihthe cylindrical? outer tip. member 40 andzincludes. a cylindrical tip member or nipple M which at its resi ns-'15. formed with an annular flange 45} Tli fia'nge. 4.5. is adaptedto seat at itsrear endeon the forward end of the'nipple or coupling men-rher [4 of the jacketlfll The rear portion ofthe,
cylindrical tip member 42 is provided with an annular recess 4'6 within which the outer portion of the rib or flange 45 is adapted to engage. Preferably, the width of the flange 45 is slightly greater than the depth of the groove or recess 46, so that a portion of the flange 45 will project rearwardly of the outerjacket member 43. In this manner when the tip 39 is tightened within the nipple I4, the flange 45 will tightly bear against the forward end of thenipple Hi, and will 'be tightly pressed into the recess or groove 46.
The cylindrical tip member 55 is held concentrically of the outer jacket member 4% by means of a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart set screws 41. An inner rubber lining 43 is disposed within the interior of the nipple member 44, so as to prevent the sand from coming in direct contact with the metal forming the reduced nip ple member Hi The jacket M has connected thereto a coupling nipple 59 which is adapted to be connected to a source of fluid supply, so as to V permit the discharge of water into the chamber 50 formed within the jacket ii. If desired, the
lining 48 may be formed of steel having a resist: ant characteristic to prevent undue abrasion from the sand passing therethrough.
In the use and operation of this nozzle the threads 13 of the jacket or nozzle member iii are adapted to'be connected to a source of sand supply under air or-other' fluid pressure, and the nipple I1 is adapted to be connected to a source ofwater supply. The nipple $9 is also adapted 'The sand, being under air pressure, will move forwardly through the tip 39 and at the same time 7 that the combined sand and water is being ejected from the tip 39 a substantially conical column of water or head will be discharged onto the work from the jet openings 62, so that the sand will wash off of the work after the sand has com pleted its abrasive action on the work. 7
