Description

27, 1943. L. KASAN 2,317,917
VENETIAN BLIND Filed March 10, 1942 INVENTOR MM); q
I I ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 27, 1943 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE VENETIAN BLIND Louis Kasan, New York, N. Y. Application March 10, 1942, Serial No. 434,085 4 Claims. (01. 160-236) This invention relates to Venetian blinds, and its principal object is to provide such blind with improved slats, for adjusting the latter longitudinally, so as to fit the blind as a whole laterally, for installation on windows of various widths.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawing- Fig. 1 is a fragmentary plan view showing the left-hand end of the Venetian blind slat constituting the invention, the right-hand end being similar and not shown, for convenience in illustration.
Fig. 2 is an end section of the slat shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of a Venetian blind slat, which is a modification of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view, in an enlarged scale, of the slat shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an end section of the slat shown in Fig. 3. v
The Venetian blind slat I, Figs. 1 and 2, ,comprises a unitary median slat body 8, made of any suitable material, and provided along each of its end portions with series of dents 61, as illustrated. For each of the ends of the slat body 8 is provided a slat extension fitting 65, consisting of a plate portion 64 having springy arms 60 that embrace the slat-end, and teeth 66 for engagement with the dents 61, the plate 64 having a slot II for a usual lifting rope l0. By sliding each of the fittings 65 along the end of slat body 8 and selectively engaging its teeth 66 with a portion of the dents 61, the overall length of the blind slat, consisting of the median body 8 together with its terminal fittings 65, may be thus altered and adjusted to fit it to windows of varying widths.
According to the modification shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5, the slat body 8 is provided at its end portions with series of through slits 63 and slat extension fittings 6| having a plurality of tongues 62 that are interlockable with the said slits, as
illustrated. When installing the blind on a Window of a particular width, therefore, the slat bodies 8 with their terminal extension fittings 6| are interlockingly assembled to a required overall length, to conform to the distance between the lifting ropes l0, and the blind is thereby readily fitted to such window.
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention. Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A Venetian blind slat comprising a pair of fittings for regulating the length thereof, a unitary median slat body having along each end thereof a plurality of dents, and said fittings situated at the ends of the slat having teeth for selectively engaging said dents to alter the length of the slat for installing the blind on windows of various widths.
2. A Venetian blind slat comprising a pair of fittings for regulating the length thereof, a unitary median slat body having along each end thereof a plurality of dents, and said fittings situated at the ends pressed teeth for selectively engaging said dents to alter the length of said slat for installing the blind on windows of various widths.
3. A Venetian blind slat comprising a pair of fittings for regulating the length thereof, aunitary median slat body having along each end thereof a plurality of through openings, and said fittings situated at the ends of said slat having tongues for selectively interlocking with said openings to alter the length of the slat for=installing the blind on windows of various widths.
4. A Venetian blind slat comprising a pair of fittings for regulating the length thereof, a unitary median slat body having along each end thereof a plurality of locking means, and said fittings situated at the ends of said slat having devices for interlocking with said means selectively to alter the length of the slat for installing the blind on windows of various widths.
LOUIS KASAN.
