NITED STATES PATENT OEiicE HENRY STIX, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
PA NTALooNs.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,735, dated August 31, 1880.
Application filed May 13, 1880.
` To all whom it may concern:
jcinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pantaloons, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in constructing at the junction ot" the side seam and waistband of a pair of pants a pocket composed of a single bag or pouch whose iiap, being secured at the upper angle, but left unattached on each side thereof, affords both a top opening and a side openin g. The side opening possesses an additional securityin the form of a flap or fly, tapable ot' being held closely to the leg of the garment by a button.
The accompanying drawing represents a portion of a pair ot' pants provided with my improvement, the pocket being indicated by dotted lines and by tearing away a portion ot' the material of the pants.
A represents a pocket open at top and for some distance down one side, and attached by its rear edges to the waistband B and seam C, or near the same, and by its front edges to the Hap D.
The tlap I) is strongly stitched or otherwise permanently fastened at its angle or corner d to the waistband or seam, or both, but is left unattached on each side of said angle, so as to a-iord two openings into the pocket, to wit: a top opening, a, at or near the waistband and a side opening, c', at or near the` seam.
(No model.)
To that portion of flap D which constitutes one side of the side opening, a', is secured a tly, E, having a button-hole, c, for a button, F, secured to the seam or near it.
It often occurs that while one customer will desire a top opening into the pocket, another will prefer a side opening, and still another will prefer the double opening, as here shown. It is manifest that either of the two first-named classes ot' customers may be quickly suited by simply stitching up thatopening which he does not avant, which is the work of a moment, while it' he prefer the two openings thel garmentis at once available. Thus all wants are met.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent :v
As a new article ot' manufacture, a pair ot' pants having at or near the junction of the waistband and side seam a single pocket, A, provided with two openings, c c', in the described combination with the iiap D, fastened at its extreme outer corner and unattached on each side thereof', and furnished with y theA buttoned iiy E c F atits side margin, in the manner specified.
In testimony ot' which invention I hereunto set my hand.
HENRY STIX.
