A C SCHULZ Bottle Stopper. N0. 231,451. Patented Aug. 24,1880.
FlG.-Z.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPE[ O. SCHULZ, OF LA SALLE, ILLINOIS.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPEGIFIC'ATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 231,451, da.ted August 24, 1880.
Application filed June 11, 1880.
T0 all whom z't may concem:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH O. SCHULZ, 0f La Salle, in the connty 0f L2I Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers; and I (10 herebydeclare thnt the following is a full, dem, und exact description of the invention, sufficient; to enable others skilled in the art 1:0 whieh it appertains t0 make and use it, reference being had to theaecompan yin g drawings, and to tbe letters 0f reference marked thereon, in which drawings Figure 1 is a, perspective view 0f my improvement. Fig. 2 is a similar view thereof with the stopper withdrawn fr0m the bottle. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views thereof; und Fig. 5 is a sectional view, pnrtly in side view, 0f 1ny improvement.
Tbis inveution relates to improvements in bottle-stoppers; and it1 consists of a springbail adapted t0 aet npon the stopperand with its lower ends passing through a band around the neek of the vessel and entering slots 01 grooves in the said neek 0f vessel, said grooves having downward-inclined extensions, while the band "co whieh be bail is connected has a hooked spring axlapted t0 be Sprung into one of said grooves, substantially as hereinafter 1n0re fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, d iudieates the stopper, with a covered elastic 0I rubber disk, c, secured the1eto, with tbe disk c0vering the upper edge 0f the bottle 01 vessel t0 render it air-tighb around the stopper.
e is a spring-bail, with its upper end formed int a loop, l, t0r oonvenience 110 operate it, and which admits of the bail having more or less spring und acting with a degree 0f pressure when force is applied theretoas, for instance, t0 secure it firmly upon the Stopper and around the bottle 01 vessel neck. The lower ends 0f the bai1 e, which are extended iuwardly, enter slots z, made in the neck of the bottle, after being passed through a band.
(Model.)
f is the aforesaid band, secured so as t0 slide upon the neck of the bottle 01 vessel, with perforations through it t0 permit of the reception of the inwardly-bent ends of' the bail e.
The bandf Das a spring, g, hooked into one 0f the slots i in the vessel 0r bottle neck, when the lower ends 0f the bail are tnrned into tl1e lower inclined extensions of the said slots.
The slots I extend in the direction of the length of tl1e b0ttle 01 vessel neck, and are then inclined downwardly at theirlower ends, as above intimated, t0 pexmit the turning 0f the bail, so aus t0 cause the lower ends to dmw upon its upper end and press downwardly npon the stoppen When in this position the spring g is capable of being sprung into the vertical portion of 0ne 0f the slots i, so aus to draw lau erally upon the neek 0f the botble 0r vessel and in a direction that: will prevent the lower ends of the bail e rising oub of tl1e inclined exten-sious 0f the slots z, und thus effectually loek the bail down upon and firmly secnre the stoppen in place in the neck 0f Lhe bottle 01 vessel. By springing the spring g 0ut 0t' the sl0l; the bail will be relensed, and the same can be elevated 01 turned t0 one side 0ub 0f the way und permit; the sboppex t0 be removed.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim und desire to secure by Letters Patent- The connbination, wih the bottle or vessel neck having the vertical slots i, winh their lower ends provided with downwrd-inelined extensions, of the stopper spring-bail'e I, having inwzwdly-bent ends, und the bandf, havin g a booked spring, g, constructed and adapted t0 operate as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof 1 aflix my signature in presence ot two wilmesses.
ADOLPH G. SCHULZ.
