SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 231,346, dated August 17, 1880. Application filed July 3, 1880. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

7 Be it known that I, Ismoa NEUBURGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Methods of Putting up Embroidery, Lace, 850., of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in the putting up of embroidery, lace, and similar goods; and it consists in the combination, with a card for holding embroidery, lace, or similar articles, of a flap hinged to the card and wrapped with the sample end of the said lace or other like article held upon the card, whereby when the flap is folded down the sample end will be displayed above the article upon the card, substantiallyin the manner hereinafter specified.

It also consists in the combination, with a box having its cover formed with an opening, of a card adapted to hold lace, embroidery, or other like article, and provided with a flap which is hinged to the card and wrapped with the sample end of the said lace or other like article held upon the card, whereby when the card with the flap folded down is placed withintlie box and the lid of the box closed, the sample end of the article will be displayed through the opening in the box-lid, substantially as hereinafter specified.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, showinglaee wrapped around the flap and passed over to the card. Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of a box containing goods arranged on the card and flap.

I prefer to make both the card and the flap of pasteboard, of :two separate pieces pasted together, or in one piece, producing a hinge, by one or more cuts at or near the junction of the card and the flap, so that the flap can be folded over; or the card and flap may be joined together by some flexible material, or other- Wise hinged together.

it is the sample end of the lace wrapped around the flap, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. k is is the part wound about the card. Where the lace passes over to the card it is turned over, and may be fastened bya pin, as shown at Z, Fig. 2.

The upper side of the flap (when folded down on the card) is, by preference, lined with colored paper, or colored in some other manner, in order to better exhibit the goods.

The card and flap, with the article arranged on the same, are placed into a suitable box, m n 0 Fig. 3, provided with a hinged cover, a p q 1", which, by preference, has a square opening, 8 t u 1;, through which, when the cover is down, the sample part of the goods on the flap can be seen. By this arrangement the goods may be cut from the card as desired, without disturbing the sample end on the flap, and the goods can also be entirely removed from the box and replaced without disengaging them.

What 1 claim is 1. The combination, with a card for holding embroidery, lace, or similar articles, of a flap hinged to the card and wrapped with the sample end of the said lace or other like article held upon the card, whereby, when the flap is folded down, the sample end will be displayed above the article upon the card, substantially in the manner herein specified.

2. The combination, with a box having its cover formed with an opening, of a card adapted to hold lace, embroidery, or other like article, and provided with a flap which is hinged to the card and wrapped with the sample end of the said lace or other like article held upon the card, whereby when the card with the flap folded down is placed Within the box and the lid of the box closed the sample end of the article will be displayed through the opening in the box-lid, substantially as specified.
