FACE MUS CLE LIFTER Filed May 18, 1942 1:21:25 T/k'ellzarz BY ATTUR/YEY T INVENTOR.
Patented Jan. 5, 1943 FACE MUSCLE LIFTER Julius Thiemann, Mount Vernon, N. Y. Application May 18, 1942, Serial No. 443,329
7 Claims.
- This invention relates to new and useful im provements in a face muscle lifter.
More particularly, theinvention contemplates characterizing the face muscle lifter by a pair of clasps adapted to be mounted on strands of hair.
at the temples, and strings from said clasps extending towards each other and adapted to extend over the head and be connected together so as to draw up the muscles along the sides of the face extending from the temples to below the chin.
More particularly, the invention contemplates a certain construction of each of the clasps adapting them to be efiectively connected with the strands of hair and maintain their positions. It is proposed to construct these clasps of small size so that they may be mounted on the hair and allowed to remain thereon during shampooing, washing, etc.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a certain spring lock means associated with the strings from the clasps by which the strings may be held under tension for lifting the face muscles, as already stated.
For further comprehension of this invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is an illustration of a face muscle lifter constructed according to this invention and applied to a patron.
Fig. 2 is a developed view of the face muscle Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 but showing the I leaves of the clasp open.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the string lock means.
Fig. '7 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line l'| of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. '7 but with th parts in a different position.
Fig. 9 is a similar view to Fig. 3 but illustrating a modified form of the invention.
The face muscle lifter, in accordance with this invention, includes a pair of clasps [0 adapted to be mounted on strands of hair I I at the temples. Strings l2 and I3 from the clasps 10 extend towards each other and are adapted to extend over:
the head [4 of a patron. String lock means I5 is associated with the strings I2 and I3 for holding the strings under tension for lifting the muscles at the sides of the face from the vicinity of the temples down to the chin.
Each clasp l 0 comprises a pair of leaves It and 11 connected together at one of their ends by a hinge construction IS. The other ends of these leaves are provided with complementary latch elements 19 and 20 which engage each other when the clasp is closed for holding the leaves adjacent each other. It is proposed that the clasps Ill be mounted on the strands of hair ll ina certain way. A small 'area of hair, for example /4 of a square inch is collected and combed straight. Then at points I l near the roots of the hair the strands H are extended across the outer face of one of the leaves, as illustrated, the leaf l5, and over the top edge of this leaf [6 at the point II From this point the strands II are continued down across the back side of the leaf l 6 and then at the point H across the root ends ll of the strands of hair.
The strands of hair H are then continued upwards across the back of the leaf l6 as indicated by reference numeral ll The top and bottom edges 2| of the leaf I6 are concave so as to tend to cause the strands of hair II to accumulate at the center of the leaf. The adjacent contracting faces of the leaves l6 and [1, when the clasp is closed may be knurled, or roughened in any other way, so as to better grip the strands of hair. When the leaves l6 and I l are closed it. will be found that the clasp is firmly mounted on the strands of hair I l. The top and bottom edges of the leaf I! are also concave for purpose of ornamentation. The leaf ll of each clasp has a hook 22 mounted on its top edge which is adapted to be engaged by one of the strings I2 or IS.
The string-lock means I5 comprises a hollow casing 23 having a felt bottom pad 24 for resting against the head. A stem 25 is slidably mounted within the casing and projects from one side. This stem has ahead 26 by which it may be shifted inwards and outwards. The inner end of the stem 25 is slidably supported in a block 27. The inner end of the stem 25 has an offset inner end 28 passingthrough a slot 29 in the block 21 forlimiting movement of the stem. A bolt 30 is slidably mounted through the top wall of the casing .23.
which the'bolt 30 passes. The cam33 is'located -to be engagedby thestrings Hand 13. ends of the clamping member 40 are-bent down,
to the sides of the bolt 30 and engages against the head of the bolt, as clearly shown in Fig. '7. When the stem 25 is pulled outwards, as illustrated in Fig. 8, the cam 33 rides free from the head 32 of the bolt 30, and then the leaf spring 3| is loose.
The string I2 is provided with a loop 35 at one end which is engaged on one of the hooks 22 of one of the clasps l 0. The other end of the string I2 is tiedthrough apertures .36 formed in the casing 23. 'The string I3 is doubled upon itself. One end is tied through apertures 36 to the casing 23. The intermediate portion of the string I3 is engaged through the book 22 of the clasp Hi,
the free end of the string [3 is engaged beneath the spring 3! which fixedly holds it-in position.
The operation of the face muscle lifter may be understood from the following: The clasps i are mounted upon strands of hair at the temples.
The strings l2 and [3 are then extended over the head. Thestring I3 is pulled 'tightso as to tension the'strings l2 .and 13. This pulls the strands of hair -upon which the clasps are mounted. The tension is transmitted to the face muscles, lifting the muscleslong'the sides of the face'all the'waydown to'the chin.
The face muscle lifter may esily be removed by first pulling outward on the head 26 so as to extend the stem '25 to: the position shown in Fig. 8. This releasesthe leaf spring 3! which'frees the string !3. Thistloosens' the-strings l 2 and l3 and facilitatesdisengagement of thestrings from=thehooks 22 of the clasps l0. Theclasps I'D may be removed fromthe strands-of hair H when desired.
-In Fig.9, -a clamping member 40 is provided forreinforcingthe'grip of leaves [Band 11 on the strands of hair" I I. The clamping member :consists of 'a'pair of substantially parallel arms 4! joined by a loop portion '43 which is adapted Thefree under the arms 4| and towards the'loop portion 43, so as to hold the clasp l0 inaddition tofacili- .tate'the gripping of the-strands of hair 11.
This arrangement permits the removal of the strings I2 and I3 together with the gripping members Ail, without manipulating the string lock [5.
While I-have illustrated and described" the preferred embodiments of'my invention, itis'tobe understood-that I do not limit myself to the-precise constructions'herein disclosed and the'right is reserved to allchanges and modifications, coming within the scope of-the invention'asdefin'ed in the appendedaclaims.
Having thus described my'invention, What '1 claim as new, and desire to "secure by United States'Letters Patent is:
