DRAWING FRAME WITH ADJUSTABLE HOLDER FOR THE PRESSURE ROLLERS Filed Sept. 23. 1940 Patented Dec. 29, 1942 DRAWING FRAME WITH .ADJUSTABLE HOLDER FOR THE PRESSURE ROLLERS Ernst Toenniessen, Munich, Germany; vested in the Alien Property Custodian Application September 23, 1940, Serial No. 358,023 In Germany November 24, 1939 Claims.
1 The invention relates to a drawing frame for textile rovings and spinning machines, which is provided with a number of pairs of rollers, acting alone or in cooperation with endless belts.
One object of the invention is to simplify adjustment of the drawing frame and to provide an improved apparatus comprising a transverse bar which extends throughout the entire drawing frame in the direction of the roller axes, said bar and the displaceable element of the holder for the pressure rollers being provided with cooperating means for fixing the position of the displaceable elements of the holders.
.Another object of the invention is to provide an improved apparatus wherein th elements of the holder for the pressure rollers can easily be disposed and adjusted without loosening clamping means and use of gauges.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an improved apparatus, wherein the holder for the pressure rollers is hinged in open bearings, allowing the radial removal of the holder from its bearing, but wherein the holder at the same time is secured against radial displacement when in the operative position, thus preventing mis-alignment of neighbored rollers in the direction of their axes.
A further object of the invention is to construct the holder for the pressure rollers in such a manner that the clamping means for displaceable elements of the support for the lower rollers, are accessible from above without previous lifting or removal of the holder, thus equally facilitating the adjusting of the drawing frame.
Several embodiments of the drawing frame according to the invention are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 shows in side elevation a drawing frame with section through the bearing bolt of the holder for the pressure rollers on line I-I of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 shows the holder for the pressure rollers alone viewed from above, the bearing point being shown in cross-section on line IIII of Fig. 1,
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 show in side elevation modified forms of construction of the bearing point of the holder for the pressure rollers.
On the drawing frame shown in Fig. 1 a pair of drawing rolls is designated by |I, a pair of middle rollers by 2II, and a pair of feed rollers by 3III. The lower rollers II, III are mounted in a slide 4, which is adjustable on the stationary upright frame 5 so that its distance relative to the lower drawing roller I may be adjusted. The pressure rollers I, 2, 3 are journalled in usual manner on the lateral cutout portions of a holder of the pressure rollers which is composed of two parts 6 and 1. These two parts of the holder for the pressure rollers are mounted one on the other and are freely shiftable in their longitudinal direction, the front part 1 of the holder for the over the upright frame 5.
pressure rollers being guided at its rear end in the front end of part 6. The movement of the two parts in longitudinal direction is limited by a pin 8 fixed in part 6 and projecting through a longitudinal slot 9 in the other part I. A brake spring I0 is further sunk in the part 6, the head I I of this spring pressing against the part I and ensuring a suflicient braking of the two parts.
A reversing bar 2 is mounted between the lower rollers I, II on the stationary upright frame 5 and has a heart-shaped cross-section and forms the front bearing for a belt l3 which extends from the reversing bar l2 downwards over a stretching means l4 and thence upwards over the middle lower roller II. On the front part 1 of the holder of the pressure rollers a passage element I5 is further mounted above the reversing bar I2. An abutment pin I6 is fixed in the upright frame 5 and projects through the reversing bar I2 so that its upper end engages in a notch formed on the front part I of th holder of the pressure rollers. This part has further a scale IS on its top.
The rear end IQ of the holder of the pressure rollers is hinged on the slide 4 in a bearing 20 constructed as a forked head. The hinge bolt 2|- of the bearing is rigidly connected with the holder of the pressure rollers, and On the rear end IQ of part B a clamping slit 22 and a clamping screw 23 are provided which effect clamping of the hinge bolt 2|. The counter-bearing 20 has on each of its cheeks engaging over the holder of pressure rollers a horizontal slot 24, whereas the hinge bolt 2| within the range of these cheeks of the counter-bearing 20 has notches 25 which are of a depth so that the cross-section of the hinge bolt on line 1-1 of Fig. 2 remaining between them fits into the slot 24. If therefore the holder 6, 1 of the pressure rollers is swung from the position shown in Fig. 1 in a clockwise direction of in an upward direction, the holder together with the bolt 2| mounted on it can be pulled out of the bearing 20, unless the holder of the pressure rollers strikes with its rear end face in the swung out position against an abutment face 26 of the slide 4.
The slide 5 is clamped by means of a clamping screw 21 on the upright frame 5, the screw extending through the body of the slide and is screwed at its lower end into anut 28 engaging The rear part 6 of the holder of the pressure rollers has a bore 29 so that it is possible to grip the head of the clamping screw Z'l, without lifting the holder of the pressure rollers, by a wrench, socket-v wrench or the like.
If the drawing frame requires adjustment, it is merely necessary to loosen with the aid of a socket wrench. the clamping screw 2'! and to then shift, while observing the scale l8, the
slide 4 and the part of the holder of the pressure rollers mounted on the slide in a forward or rearward direction until the desired distance between the pair of middle rollers 2II and the pair of drawing rollers l-I is had. During this adjusting the front part i of the holder of the pressure rollers remains permanently in its position secured by the abutment pin Hi. If the drawing frame is situated very high or if for other reasons the scale 18 cannot be well observed in the working position of the holder of the pressure rollers, the adjusting of the parts may be carried out so that first the holder of the pressure rollers is raised and lifted out of its bearing, the correct adjusting being then effected with theaid of the scale it, whereupon the holder of the pressure rollers is inserted again into its bearing and the slide i, which has previously been loosened, together with the holder of the pressure rollers is shifted forward or backward until the notch l! of the holder of the pressure rollers engages over the abutment pin I6. After tightening of the clamping screw 21 the elements are in the correctly adjusted position.
In the form of construction shown in Fig. 3 the slots 36 in the side cheeks of the counterbearing 26 mounted in the slide 4 are open at the top, whereas the bolt 3! at the rear end of the holder 32 of the pressure rollers is tightened by means of the clamping screw 33 so securely that the bolt cross-section fitting the slots 30 is in horizontal position when the holder of the pressure rollers is in the operative position. Also in this arrangement the parts can be separated the one from the other after the holder of the pressure rollers has been turned by 90, it being merely necessary to lift the holder of the pressure rollers in an upward direction.
In the form of construction shown in Fig. 4 the slots 3% of the counter-bearing 20 are of a width equal to the thickness of bolt 35, the bolt being tightened at the end 35 of the holder of the pressure rollers by means of the clamping screw 37. The bolt is held in position by a spring 38 which, when the holder of the pressure rollers is lifted, is forced out of its locking position.
In the form of construction shown in Fig. it is assumed that the bolt 39 has to remain permanently rigidly connected with the counterbearing of the holder 42 of the pressure rollers. The bolt 39 has transverse notches 40 according to the whole width of the holder of the pressure rollers, Whereas the holder of the pressure rollers has at its lower end a slot ll adapted to the remaining cross-section of the bolt, so that the parts can be separated the one from the other after the holder of the pressure rollers has been turned by 90.
According to the number of the units lying side by side in a drawing frame, two or more holders of pressure rollers can be clamped on a common bearing axle so that several holders can simultaneously be removed from their bearing points and reinserted. Holders of pressure rollers arranged side by side can also be mounted, in the solid construction shown in Fig. 5, on a common solid axle. So far as no underframe is coordinated to the juxtaposed units, the holders can be supported at their front end directly on the reversing bar IE or on the lower feed roller I by a fork-shaped head open in a downward direction and secured against shifting.
The invention is not restricted to the details of the constructions described.
