UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT R. BAE AND JAMES WILDS, OF AOTON, ONTARIO, CANADA; SAID WILDS ASSIGNOR TO SAID BAE.
GLOVE-FASTENER.`
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,495, dated July 27, 1880.
Application filed March 29, Isso.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROBERT REGINALD RAE, of the town of Acton, in the county of Halton, in the Province of Ontario, Canada,
and JAMES WILDS, of the same place, have jointly invented a new and useful Glove-Fastener; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accom- Io panyin g drawings and letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l represents a glove with our improved fastener locked. Fig. 2 represents a glove with our improved fastener unlocked.
Figs. 3, 4, 5,` and 6 are enlarged details representin g several different forms of the fastener.
Our invention relates to improvements in glove-fasteners and it consists of a pair of interlocking hooks attached to the edges of the 2o slit in the glove and provided with heads to prevent the separation of the locked hooks in the ordinaryT movements of the hand, as hereinafter more fully set forth. Y
In the accompanying drawings, B B repre- .2 5 sent a pair of hooks, each composed of a ilat part, A, adapted to be secured by rivets or otherwise to the edges of the glove-slit S, as
clearly shown in the several gures.
The fastener beyond the plate A is preferably rounded and bent into a hook form at B,
and its outer end is inclined upwardly and terminates in a head, O.
In using this fastener, after the hand has been inserted in the glove, the head C of one 3 5 ofthe hooks may be employed in hooking the parts together, one of the hooks being moved longitudinally until the heads pass each other,
and then laterally until the hooks interlock,
the heads O preventing the separation of the 4o hooks in the ordinary movements of the gloved hand.
InFigs. l and 2 we 'have represented the hooks twisted in opposite directions, and when the hooks are interlocked in this construction the heads C will abut against each other, and one of the heads Will be slightly in advance of vthe other, the heads thus securing the engagement of the hooks when locked and prevent- (Model.)
ing their unlocking in the ordinary movements of the hand. 5o
In Figs. 3 and 4the hooks B both bend downward or in the same direction, and after the hooks B are interlocked the heads C will abut against each other, and neither head will be in advance of the other.
In Figs. 5 and 6 the hooks are twisted in opposite directions, and after the hooks are interlocked the heads O would not abut against each other, but'one ofthe heads would occupy a position somewhat in advance of the oth'er, 6o but in any ordinary movement of the gloved hand tending to unlock the fastening the heads would be brought against each other, thus preventing the unlocking of the hooks unless forced to pass each other. IVe are aware that fastening-knobs are of themselves old, and we are also aware that fastening-knobs have heretofore been used on a glove fastening composed of two plates hinged at one end and free at the other, and 7o We therefore lay no claim to such inventions, our invention consisting of a glove-fastener composed of interlocking hooks forming the fastening, which hooks are held in a locked position by means of heads, as above described. Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A glove-fastening device consisting of y two interlocking hooks adapted to be attached 8o to the-edges of a glove-slit, said hooks being provided with heads securing the lock of the hooks when engaged with each other in the ordinary movements of the gloved hand, substantially as described. '8 5 2. The combination, with a glove having a slit, S, of the hooks B B, each provided with a at part, A, secured to the edges of the glove-slit, and a head, G, the wholeconstructed and arranged to operate in the manner and 9o for the purpose set forth.
