'- (Cl. 2-44) V v 2 Claims.
My invention relates broadly to garments and more particularly to an improved pattern and construction of uniform for women.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a pattern and construction of uniform for 2:
women which is formed of separable coacting portions which may be independently and readily laundered.
Another object of my invention is to provide a construction of two part uniform readily adaptable to various proportions of'the bust measure, waist measure and hip measure.
Still another objectof my invention is to provide a construction of two part uniform comprising an underbody provided with tape ties and i T a reversible front panel adapted to be removably secured to the underbody by means of buttons and belt member.
A further object of my invention is to provide a two part uniform comprising an underbody and a reversible front portion including an apron of double thickness adapted to present a fresh external surface for the uniform in either of its connected positions with respect to the undercured with respect thereto through adjustable v and removable buttons.
Another object of my invention is to provide a construction of two part uniform including an apron portion provided with a pocket individual to opposite sides of the apron portion and adapted to present a fresh wearable surface for the uniform when the apron is secured in either of two positions with respect to an underbody or coat portion of the garment.
Other and further objects of my invention reside in the pattern and construction of garment as set forth more fully in the specification hereinafter following by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a front view of the assembled garment showing the front panel in buttoned relation' to the underbody or coat portion of the garment; Fig. 2 is a back view of the assembled garment illustrated in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the underbody or coat portion of the garment shown in assembled position before attachment of the front panel portion of the garment; Fig. 4 is a front view of the removable and reversible front panel portion of the garment; Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of one of the detachable and adjustable buttons employed on the underbody portion of the garment for detachably securing the front panel portion of the garment; Fig. 6 is a rear view of the adjustable securing means for one ofthe removable buttons carried by the underbody or coat portion of the garment; Fig. 7 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view taken on line l-l of Fig. 6; Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional view taken through the underbody or coat portion of the garment on line 88 of Fig. 3; Fig. 9 is a transverse sectional view on a somewhat enlarged scale taken on line 9-'-9 of Fig. 1 and illustrating the assembled relationship of the reversible front panel portion of the garment with respect to the underbody or coat portion of the garment; Fig. 10 is a vertical sectional view taken through the front panel and apron portion of the garment and illustrating a portion of the front panel and apron portion in perspective; Fig. 11 is a fragmentary perspective view of the adjustable belt employed for securing the apron portion with respect to the underbody orcoat portion of the garment; Fig. 12 is a perspective view of the reverse side of the belt illustrated in Fig. 11 and showing more particularly the adjustable means employed for controlling the effective length of the belt with respect to the underbody or coat portion of the garment; and Fig. 13 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 13-43 of Fig. 12 showing the coacting portions of the securing belt in secured position.
Referring to the drawings in detail, reference character I designates the underbody or coat portion of the garment which is'shaped to conform to various proportions of the bust measure, waist measure and hip measure. The coat portion terminates at'the front in relatively widely separated marginal portions 2 and 3 which are adapted to bedrawn together by means of tape reenforcing means for the passage of the securing means of the detachable buttons Ill and II respectively. Immediately adjacent the collar portion I and the extremities of the marginal edge portions 2 and 3, I provide buttons 23 and 24 which serve as securing means for the detachable front panel I5.
As shown in Fig. 4 the front panel I5 includes a neck portion having lapels I2 and I4 which substantially cover buttons I0, 23, I I and 24, when the neck portion is attached to the underbody of the coat portion. The front panel is provided with button holes at I and 23' and at II and 24' for receiving buttons I0, 23, II and 24 respectively.
The underbody or coat portion I is provided intermediate the collar portionand-thewaist line with reenforcing strips 25 and 26 on the inside of the material constituting the underbod-y or coat portion of the garment. These strips 25 and 26 serve as reenforcing means for detachably' securing the buttons 20 and 2I in different spacial positions. As indicated in Figs. 6 and 7, the buttons 20 and 2| are each detachably and may be secured through selected spaced eyelets provided at 29a, 20b, 20c and 2Ia, 2Ib and 2Ic as shown, thereby affording variously spaced lateral supporting positions for the front panel I5. Buttonholes 20' and 21' are provided in the panel I5 to engage the adjustably spaced buttons 20 and 2| in the underbody or coat portion of the garment.
It will be observed that the front panel I5 is formed from two layers of fabric indicated at I5a and [5b in Fig. 10. These layers of fabric are stitched at their marginal edges and connect with the. independent lapels I2 and I4 at the upper extremity and are stitched? at I50 to the belt I6 at its lower extremity. The belt l6 extends transversely with respect to the front panel I5 and includes projecting portions Ifia and I612. The projecting portion [6a. carries a multiplicity of groups of buttonholes which I have indicated at 23a, 23b, 230,2301 and. 24a, 24b, 24c and 24d. These groups of buttonholes are adapted to receive detachable buttons 23. and 24. The buttons 23 and 24 may be attached in selected holes in order to conform the uniform. to various body sizes. The portion of the beltv IBb carries buttonholes 23 and 24 adapted to engage buttons 23 and 24 respectively, when the parts of the belt are interconnected: at the rear of the uniform shown in Fig. 2.
The skirt portion is: indicated at H connected at its upper extremity with belt I6 by stitches along the line H0. The skirt I1 is formed from a double thickness of fabric indicated at I'Ia and I'll), which fabric is doubled upon itself to provide two independent wearing surfaces. Each wearing surface includes a pocket. Pocket I8 is fastened to the surface I-Ia; while pocket I9 is fastened to the surface I'Ib; Accordingly, a pocket is provided in the skirt portion I 1 whether the skirt be worn either normally or in the reverse position.
The fastening means have been shown as removable buttons which add to the ornamental character of the uniform. It will be understood, however, that snap fasteners may be employed or other forms of detachable connectors provided which will permit quick attachment, detachment or reattachment of the front cover portion with respect to the coat portion. When the surface of the front cover portion I5 or skirtI'I becomes soiled the front cover portion may be readily detached from the coat portion, raising the lapels I2 and I4 to permit more ready access to the substantially concealed fastening means beneath the lapels I2 and I4. The lapels I2 and I4 are each reversible in position as the front cover portion is reversed. The entire front cover portion is reversed and reattached to the coat portion, the lapels I2 and I4 being moved to a position coacting with the collar portion I of the coat portion. It is necessary to remove the buttons 23 and 24 and reinsert these buttons in reverse position in order to secure the front cover portin in reversed position with respect to the coat portion.
The coatporti-on and the front cover portion are eachseparately launderable and thus reduce laundry costs in that each portion after washing and drying may be opened out flat and pressed in a flat-work ironer.
While I have disclosed my invention in certain preferred embodiments l realize that modifications may be made and I intend no limitations upon my invention other than may be imposed by the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim, as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:
1. A garment comprising a pair of coac-tingseparately launderable portions, one of said portions constituting a coat having spaced marginal coextensive front edge. portions and a collar member, means interconnecting said marginal coextensive front edgeportions, fastening means carried by the front of said coat, the other of said separately launderable portions constituting a reversible front. cover member extending across the gap between the marginal edge portions of said coat, reversible lapels carried by'the upper periphery of said reversible front. cover member and conforming. with the collar member. on said coat, and means carriedby said front cover member detachably engageable with the fastening means carried by the front of said coat, the. reversible lapels on said. front cover member operating to partially conceal certain of saidifastening means in either the normal or reversed position of said front cover member.
2. A garment comprising a pair of coacting separately launderable portions, one of said portions constituting acoat having spaced marginal. coextensive front edge portions and a collar member, means interconnecting said marginal coextensive front edge portions, fastening means-carried by the front of said coat, the other of said separately launderabl'e portions constituting a reversible front cover member extending across the gap between themarginal edgeportions of said coat, independent reversible lapels carried by the upper'periphery of said reversible front cover member and conforming with the collar member on said coat, coacting fastening means carried by said front cover member for detachably engaging the fastening means carried by the front of said coat, and an adjustable transversely extending belt connected with said front cover member for maintaining said front cover member in position, said independent reversible lapels on said front cover member operating in either normal or reverse position of said front cover member to substantially conceal certain of the fastening means on said coat and on. said front cover member.
