3 Claims.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders for safety razor blades for the purpose of holding the blade in a position for sharpening thereof, or for use of the blade for various cutting purposes.

A further object of the invention is to provide a blade holder of simple and practical construction which is adapted to accommodate various types of blades and which at the same time is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully; hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which:

Figure 1 is an edge elevational view with the handle of the holder shown in section.

Figure 2 is a side elevational view.

Figure 3 is a fragmentary side elevational view showing a double-edged blade secured in position therein.

Figure 4 is an edge elevational view thereof.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary side elevational view showing a single edge blade in position in the holder.

Figure 6 is an edge elevational view thereof.

Figure 7 is a side elevational view showing a narrow type of blade supported in the holder, and

Figure 8 is an edge elevational View thereof.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 5 designates a handle which may be made of wood, metal, or other suitable material and having a recess 6 therein adapted to receive one end of a pair of jaw members 1 therein in friction tight engagement. A ferrule 8 is carried by the handle at the outer end of the recess 6 to secure the jaws in position therein.

The jaws, at their outer ends, are of spring metal and of flat construction, the jaws being normally swung apart as shown to advantage in Figgure 1 of the drawing. A bolt 9 passes through the jaws intermediate their ends and is provided with a wing nut II) for closing the jaws against each other.

The outer ends of the jaws at their outer edge portions are formed with opposed lips II and I2 and inwardly of the lips the opposed faces of the jaws are formed with recesses l3 and [4, the inner edges of the recesses defining shoulders l5 and I6. At the outer edge of the recess I3 is formed a transversely disposed elongated lug l1 adapted to move under the inner edge of the 11p l2 when the jaws are in closed position.

The recesses 13 and M are adapted to receive safety razor blades of various types, such as illustrated by the double-edged blade I8 in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawing, the blade being formed with a longitudinally extending slot l9 adapted to accommodate the lug I! to support the blade in position on the lug and thus retain the blade in its proper position while the jaws are being closed.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 5 and 6, the blade 20 is of a single-edged type and the blunt edge 2| thereof is adapted to seat on the shoulders l5 and I6 of the jaws to properly support the blade in position thereon.

The blade 22, illustrated in Figures 7 and 8, is of narrow elongated form of a type used in certain safety razors and has one edge adapted to rest on the lug H of the type illustrated in Figures 2, 3 and 5, or upon the spaced lugs IT as shown in Figure 7, for supporting the blade between the jaws while the jaws are being closed.

It is believed the details of construction, advantages and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.

Having thus described the invention what I claim is:

A blade holder comprising a pair of flat jaws, means for securing the jaws in clamping relation against a blade positioned between the jaws, said jaws having recesses at their opposed faces, and an elongated lug on the inner face of one jaw in the region of said recesses and adapted to support the blade in position on said one jaw during clamping movement of the jaws.

2. A blade holder comprising a pair of fiat jaws, means for securing the jaws in clamping relation against a blade positioned between the jaws, said jaws having recesses at their opposed faces, the inner edges of said recesses forming shoulders on the inner faces of the jaws adapted tosupport an edge of a blade thereon, and an elongated lug on the inner face of one jaw adjacent the outer edges of the recesses and also adapted to support the blade thereon.

3. A blade holder comprising a pair of flat jaws, means for securing the jaws in clamping relation against a blade positioned between the aws, and a blade support projecting laterally from the inner face of one jaw and extending throughout the greater portion of the length of the blade to support the blade in position on said one jaw during clamping movement of the Jaws.
