FRIDOLIN SOHIFFEBLE, OF ST. ILOUIS, MISSOURI.
CULINARY VESSEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters Patent NO. 230,201, dated July 20, 1880.
` Application iled April 3,1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIDOLIN SCHIFFERLE, ot' the city and county of St. Louis, in the State ot' Missouri, have made certain Improvements in Culinary Vessels, ot' which the following is a specitioation.
The object ot this invention is to improve the inventions described and claimed in Patents No.1()7,818, dated September 27, 1870, and No. 179,354, dated June 27, 1876; and it consists in making the bands or jacket that surrounds the body ot' the vessel removable, or so that the vessel may be taken out of the bands or jacket, when necessary, bysuch means as will be fully hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an earthen tea-pot in section, with the position of the bands and the means for removal shown. Fig. 2 represents a mug'of earthenware with the removable bands. Fig. 3 represents anv open-mouth kettle with the removable bands. Figs. 4,5, and 6 show the construction of the means for removing the bands, frame, orjacket that hold the earthen vessel in enlarged views; and Fig. 7 is a side view ot' a tapering vessel wholly inclosed in a jacket.
A represents the body of an earthen vessel which may be in any desired form for culinary use.
B represents the bottom band that embraces the base of vessel A, and it may be connected with a bottom plate, B', to cover the entire bottom ot the vessel, or only partly cover it, as desired; or it may cover the entire body ot' a vessel.
C is the band that surrounds the vessel near its top edge.
D D are uprights, connected at their bottom end with band B, and at or near their top ends they are attached to bands O. In Fig. l the handle E of' the tea-pot is attached to this upright, and in Fig. 3 t-he upright extends above the band C and above the top of the vessel, to admit a bail, E, to be used instead of a handle.
In the tea-pot, Fig. 1, the upright strap D is rmly attached to band C at its top end, while at its lower end is the half of a hingejoint, c, and fixed upon the base-band B is the other half of the hinge-joint c', as seen in Fig. 4.
e" is the pin that goes through the hingejoint in the two parts and holds them together, with their handles or bails complete.
eX is a chain used as a means of preventing the pin c from being separated from the removable xtures of the vessel.
F is an upright strap fixed to the upper band, O, in Fig. 1, at its upper end, and connected with band j', that goes around the base ot' spout F, which band, at its lower part, is attached to band B. By this construction an entire frame-work of sheet metal surrounds and protects the cheap earthen vessel, and is removable at will.
vGr is the lid to thel tea-pot, hinged to band C, and has an inside circular plate, g, fixed to the projecting edges ot' the lid G, which forms an air-space, g', between lid G and plate g, which prevents, to a great degree, the heating of the knob G.
In any ot' these different constructions, to adapt the skeleton-frame, bands, or jackets to different vessels of different shapes, the invention is the same, whether the point at which the frame ot' bands are separated or joined is in one position or place or another, as the change ot' the location is owing to the difference in the form of vessel 5 and by removing the pin e from any of the joints the eutire frame-work of metal bands, frame, or jacket, uprights, and handles or bails can be removed from the vessels; and, it' the vessel be broken or cracked, a new vessel of the same form and size can be inserted in the frame bands or jacket, and secured therein by the pin e" alone.
Having thus described fully my improvements, what I claim is- 1. The combination of metal bands B and O, upright D, hingedjoint e c', pin c", and upright strap D, with the inclosed vessel A, as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination of the handle or bail E, frame-work of metal, composed of bands B O, uprights D, and joint e c c,'with the inclosed vessel A, as and for the purposes described.
FRIDOLIN SOHIFFERLE.
